Arrival Story:
June is adopt a shelter cat month at our local SPCA. I already had two dogs but we were moving to a new house so I talked my boyfriend into getting kittens. My sister and I went to the SPCA looking for kittens but the selection was limited. I walked by Zeus's cage and saw him then I overheard another family talking about putting an application in for him but I wasn't going to let this beautiful animal out of my sight. I looked on the other side of the cage and there was another little kitten which was Zeus's biological brother so I put in an application for both of them and low and behold, they're all mine!!!!

Hello All,

It's been a while, we've been a busy family! Some things have changed, my arch nemisis is FINALLY gone! She left with that loud man that used to live in my house so things have been quiet, I can finally enjoy myself.

My skin is looking good Mommy says, I haven't had a sore or anything, still a little bald in spots but I think it makes me look tough. I had to have all of my claws removed so I can't hurt myself but I guess it's a small price to pay considering my only other alternative was that rainbow bridge and Mommy wasn't ready to give up on me! My chances of living a normal life are really really good I just have to be careful so I spend a lot of my time curled up on soft things like the couch or Mommy's bed.

Well it's off to more napping.

Mom received another call from the vet today. The University of Penn wants to do additional research on me because this condition is so rare that they have never actually seen a cat with it. Mom says I'll have to have all four of my paws declawed, it's going to hurt but Mom assures me that she wouldn't put me through that unless it was for a good reason.

Mom also called the SPCA where I came from and was able to find out information about where I came from. Sadly, my mom cat was put to sleep shortly after we were dropped of at the SPCA. The lady at the SPCA was able to tell mom that there were 4 of us in the litter 2 boys (me and Ollie) and 2 girls. The SPCA called the mom's and dad's of my sisters and found out that one of my sister's is healthy and doing great but my other sister was put to sleep before she was even 6 months due to the same condition that I have. Mom has read that this condition is not fatal but apparently my sister was sickly so her mom and dad did what was best I'm sure.

I'll keep everyone updated.

Purrs and Paws,

Hello All,

I have sad news to report. Zeus was attacked by one of my dogs and had to have a portion of his tail amputated. All was going well but then he need additional sugery and I just received the news from the vet this morning that he carries a rare disease called Feline Cutenous Ashenia (FCA). FCA is a skin condition where the skin does not produce enough collagen and his skin can be torn open very easily. In some cats their skin is so then that getting vaccinations can open them up requiring stitches.

I have been doing extensive research on the internet and it doesn't look like it's life threatening so to speak it's just that if he opens himself up he need immediate vet care so in speaking with my vet she suggested that he be declawed in all 4 paws and we'll see how he does with that. Most cats that come up with this disease are put to sleep but I don't see why I should have to do that if he is in perfect health otherwise.

We are going to seek whatever options we can, if anyone has additional information on this disease or has a cat that also carries this please let me know what steps you have taken to prevent the cat from being cut open all the time.

I will post updates as I get them.
