Arrival Story:
I adopted Scooter a month after I arrived in Colorado in 2000. My oldest cat, Beenie seemed depressed as he was now an only kitty and was used to having other cats around. I went into the humane society looking to adopt only one cat, but I came out with two. Scooter was in the same cage as Alvin and I didnt have the heart to separate them and leave one of them behind! I hadnt noticed Scooter didnt have a tail until after we had gotten home!

Bio:
Scooter had x rays recently for a bladder problem, and the dr told me that she had a hip deformity. Apparently she had a hip fracture at one time. I found it very strange, since shes been with me since she was 6 weeks old and has never broken a bone, or even limped! She does walk funny, but I always thought it was because she didnt have a tail. She walks with her butt in the air >^..^

8/4/06
I finally brought you home today.

Tears welled up in my eyes as the young woman at the front desk handed me your little ashes. Just yesterday you were a beautiful living, breathing creature and now what is left of you fits into a pouch smaller than my hand.

Your ashes were placed in a very pretty dark purple velvet pouch by the vets office. They also made a little card. Its cream/ivory colored paper decorated with real dried flowers. The card reads the usual message that is given to families who have lost a beloved pet : "We hope that happy memories of your pet will bring you comfort. --The staff at Fremont Veterinary Hospital "

I placed your ashes in my bedroom window so that you can look out at the trees in the yard. Some of your ashes will be buried in the yard you loved so much, and the rest I'll keep with me in case we move away.

What next? Now we wait. "Life" will go on as usual, maybe I'll live to be 100, maybe not. But in my heart I know we will be together again one day.

Me and dozens of my beloved kitties, especially you.

I dont even know where to begin, Pootie.
One moment you are happy, healthy and full of life. Always a good cat, you let yourself be carried inside even though you did not want to come in the house. I brought you in so that you could eat your dinner. You ate your food and ran towards the porch as soon as you heard me walk by. I opened the door to let you out, like I had for years during the warm weather seasons. I watched you run out into the yard, your funny little tail less rump sticking up the whole time. I have to catch my breath when I think that, less than 24 hours from that time, I would lose you.
I cant write about what happened because Im filled with guilt, remorse, and shame over what happened to you. You were runned over in front of your own home by our own vehicle. That in itself didnt kill you, but I knew you were in horrific pain. Daddy drove off with you in the truck, and I stayed behind to look for a vet that could see you immediately on a Sunday. 15 minutes later you were seen by a doctor and then I got the phone call with the dreaded news. I could actually feel my heart breaking as I listened to what Daddy told me. Your jaw was broken, you had swelling and possible bleeding in your brain. There was more, and then Daddy started to tell me how they planned to treat you. I stopped him andI asked him to have you put down. He asked me if I was sure. I said yes, she's been through enough. I asked Daddy to stay with you until he was sure you were gone and I asked for your ashes.
The rest of the day went by and I was numb and although I knew it was an accident, I didnt want to talk to Daddy or even look at him.

Why am I writing all of this? I think its mostly for me, perhaps to justify the reason I asked to have you euthanized. Had I asked for the vet to treat you, it would of been for me, and not for you. Your life wouldnt be the same Pootie, and you would likely be on medication and have problems for the rest of your life. I didnt want that for you.

The littlest of all my cats, you brought such joy to my life. I think you had a good life with us, at least I hope you did. I miss you terribly and I hope that you'll forgive me. I love you very much Pootie. Its time for you to rest now, my little cat until we see each other again.

" Fare thee well
My own true love
Farewell for a while
Im going away
But I'll be back
Though I go 10,000 miles

10,000 miles
My own true love

Ten thousand miles or more
the rocks may melt
and the seas may burn
If I should not return

Oh dont you see
that lonesome dove
sitting on an ivy tree
Shes weeping for
her own true love
As I shall weep for mine

Oh come ye back
my own true love
and stay a while with me

If I had a friend
all on this earth
Youve been a friend to me "

The finer things in life

Seeing how I am now a princess kitty, I received a special gift. A beautiful, sparkly, pink collar with diamonds from Wal Mart.
It turns out that Mom and little Elizabeth went grocery shopping and Elizabeth wanted to buy me a gift.

Sniff, sniff.

Im sorry....Im just overcome with emotion. Nobody has ever spent 3 dollars and 84 cents on me before...gotta compose myself....means so much..

Mom put my fancy collar on today and Elizabeth giggled. " You look beautiful!!", they said.

I pranced around on the kitchen counter, feeling like a queen.
