Bio: UPDATE: Ming suffered increasingly from various health issues. He was 17 and had thyroid cancer, a 4/6 grade heart murmur, kidney disease, and possible colon cancer. On Saturday, September 19, 2009, Ming suffered an abrupt onset of vestbular disease, which left him staggering and with neurological symptoms, which we initially feared was a stroke. Since despite his many health issues Ming had been comfortable and quite active for his age, we had high hopes for recovery...until he stopped eating. Despite assisted feeding and subq fluids, he continued to do poorly, apparently due to kidney failure. On Thursday, October 1, our wonderful vet came to our home and helped Ming cross the Rainbow Bridge. We deeply miss our beloved Ming, who was a king among cats.
---------------------
Ming is a sweet cat with a "dog-like" purrsonality. He doesn't like to be picked up, but loves to be loved, following us around like a puppy. Ming will sit at our feet and gaze adoringly at us as he patiently waits to be noticed. He loves to be patted and hugged. Unlike many cats, he views change as an adventure. He loves to go for walks on his leash, while nervous at the vet he also looks upon it as a chance to explore someplace new. He is indeed a very curious cat, and had gotten into some tight situations because of it!
Ming is a brave kitty who has gone through a few of his 9 lives. First, he battled severe upper respiratory infections when he was younger. Then, he was diagnosed with a heart murmur when he was about 4 years old. Despite these impediments, overall he's been a healthy, happy cat. In 2005, I noticed he was losing weight and was not terribly confident it was from the diet my portly boy was on. I brought him to the vet where he was diagnosed with stomatitis - a difficult to treat, very painful oral condition whose cause is still unknown. Close to a year and thousands of dollars later, he went into remission after getting nearly all of his teeth removed. With this mysterious disease, no one can make promises that the "cure" will last, but he is once again the happy, inquisitive cat he was before the stomatitis. With only his canines left, he still holds his own and likes to remind the "youngsters" of the house who's king!
In October of 2006, we moved from California to Illinois, and now own our first home. He took the flight and move in stride, and loves his new, big house!
