Arrival Story:
Mom found me when she dropped a foster off for an adopt-a-thon at the local shelter. Always the sucker, she decided to check out the other cats. Of course, there were tons of kittens, and she was having a hard time choosing. Then someone took my siblings away and I was in the cage all alone. I was so sad, because they were always there for me. So, I quietly started to stare at my mom with my saddest eyes. Mom says I had a wild look, so she thought she's e me home. What a wild child I turned out to be!

Now that I'm all grown up, mom calls me her little cow. I am a little big for my size, but I get around just fine. She keeps saying we both need to loose some weight. She still loves me very much though.

Well, the Evo didn't work. Princess gained weight gradually until she was almost maintained. Given the fact that Evo was bought out by P&G and many local vendors will no longer be carrying it, she's now eating Iams Weight Loss - 1/4 cup twice a day. She's very unhappy about this and the last 3-4 days wants a 3rd serving. It's been a month since I've been able to weigh her, hopefully soon. I'm in the process of applying to get funds to get a full workup on her thyriod to rule that out as an issue. She still won't eat anything but kibble. I mixed her kibble with canned food one day and got the "stink eye" for 12 hours until I had to feed her kibble. I can't have her getting hepatic lipidosis!

Princess tips the scales at 17.81 pounds. She can lose a half a pound a month so it'll take about a year to get her down to the 12 pounds she should be at. She's eating Evo dry food and I'm working on getting her to eat the wet food, but she's not buying it. In about 6 months she has 2 teeth that need to get pulled, but first comes dropping some weight.

Princess is now home with mom. She's the first cat dad has "allowed" to come up to Washington and live with her. At last weight check she was 18 pounds! She's such a Maine Coon wannabe since all of her siblings are MC's. I've decided to keep a diary of her weight loss and information about what she's being fed that works or doesn't work. We go to the vet tomorrow for the official weigh in, to esablish her as a patient and get a baseline for her weight. I've done a lot of research on the subject of weight loss and it'll take awhile to get her back to a healthy weight. If I recall correctly she can only lose 1 pound per month otherwise she risks hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). I suspect she needs to lose at least 6 pounds. Right now she's eating Royal Canin Indoor Light 40, but I think I'm going to end up feeding her Evo weight loss formula. It has a much higher protein content and no grains, which are just "fillers" in a food.

Princess is still up for adoption, though a new home would need to maintain her diet since it's important to her health. Princess is located in Bonney Lake, WA and transport is available for the right home.
