Once upon a Maine Coon

My birthday party

Hi everyone!
I turned 14 years old today. Mom says I remind her of a Dan Hill song, but I don't know what she's talking about. I asked Mom to upload a photo taken at my party, I was deep into my Birthday 'cat grass' and my nosey brother Blue kept checking out my new "Harley Davidson" collar. I think he has collar envy! We had Fancy Feast 'Grilled Chicken' for dinner, some 'Greenie' treats and also some "Temptation" treats. Later we had catnip and Mom played 'wand toys' with us, which is my favorite game of all. We had some music too, that's two nights in a row Mom's played CD's for us and we've danced, this could get to be a routine and I sure hope that happens as I am a dancing fool!

After all that I snuck away for awhile and let Blue and Terra party, those two have so much energy that they wear me out just watching them race around playing 'tag' and 'hide n' seek'!! My new collar really jingles differently then my old one and Blue seems to think I'm a new cat toy! Sheeesh!

Of course Mom played "Every Picture Tells a Story" and danced "Maggie May" with me. I LOVE that song! All in all it was a very good day, or would have been perfect if Cleo from next door hadn't been lounging around on our front porch, even Blue is getting tired of seeing her always vamping Mom!

Ouch, that hurt!

I'm feeling much better now, but am missing a bottom canine toothy-peg after that nasty dental! I wasn't up to writing an update in my diary until this week, I was just too upset with those Clavimox pills I had to take twice a day for over a week. Now that they've stopped I'm not gagging and coughing anymore and feeling peachy keen! Blue kept showing how to spit them out, but I couldn't get it right, I did get rid of one, but Mom found it and I had to take it over again...YUCK!!

Anyways, it was very heartwarming to see how Blue reacted to me being away for two nights at the Vet. He head butted me and purred up a storm when I got home and it felt so good that he cared so much! He's grown up to be a great little guy and has wormed his way deep into my heart. We cuddle a lot these days, in fact both he and Terra cuddle a lot with me, not so much with eachother and I thought it would be the other way around. Mom says it's because it's winter and everyone should have a Maine Coon to cuddle with, especially if the rest of the family are all Siamese with that short fur! I like to think it's because they think I'm lovable, because, I am!!

Check out my new photos if you have time, Mom's put up some new ones! The one at the top (primary) was taken yesterday, March 8, 2006. She also put up my portrait she painted of me quite a few years ago. I love watching the Cardinals come to the bird feeders, not that I've ever been outside ever, but Mom painted my daydream, to see one up close.

Purrs,
Maggie May

I hope all my friends had a great holiday season, we did, but the tree is gone now and I really miss it! All three of us had fun with that tree! I really like my new sister Terra, she never attacks me, is always respectful so I don't mind her snuggling up to me at all. We play with her Panic Mouse together, which is good because Blue just doesn't get the idea of that Panic Mouse, he only likes to leap and jump after toys being thrown or wand toys held high in the air so he can show off! (BOYS!!) There's been a lot of excitment over the past couple of months, since it's gotten cold some field mice have made it into the house and we've caught 4 of them together, we're like a finely oil machine when it comes to intruders and they just don't stand a chance! Blue is the one who finds them first, then Terra can get them the quickest and I'm not too shabby either so all three of us get to play with it. Mom shows up and Mousie mysteriously vanishes after she's opened the front door. I have no idea how she does that trick!! Mom says I have to have a couple of teeth pulled soon. I'm really nervous about that. She says I have to stay overnight at the Vet and I don't remember ever having to do that before, but Mom assures me that I did a very long time ago.

Emotions are up and down!

This has been a very strange week! It was a year ago that my beloved Canoe went into the Vet Hospital and I never saw him again. The anniversary of his crossing the bridge is coming up on October 25th and I have a giant hole in my heart still. I've been looking out the window a lot and seeing all those leaves turning colour and falling over the yard reminds me so much of that terrible time a year ago. I had to make so many adjustments, first to the loneliness, then to Blue. Over the past year I've gotten to know him better and he's not so bad, he does his best to respect my space even if he forgets sometimes and tries to get me to wrestle. I used to do that with Canoe, but just can't bring myself to do it with Blue. I'm a year older too and don't move as fast anymore, but I will wrestle him for the top spot on the scratching post every so often. The little twirp still can't get me down off of it so I do win some battles.

On Sunday afternoon Mom and Dad brought a new little sister home, she's young, not quite full grown but still not a small a kitten so that was good. She leaves me alone and is spending a lot of time with Blue, or should I say, Blue is spending a lot of time with her. I've noticed that Mom and Dad are giving me extra attention, I guess they don't want me to feel like they love the new girl more. I appreciate that at least. I'm not 100% cool with her yet, I have to get to know her better. She speaks with a funny accent, Mom says that's because she's from the Southern United States. However, if I hear her say "Le Meow" once more I'll smack her a good one.

I really miss my Canoe!!

I'm diary of the day? WOW!!

I'm just so excited!! Mom got me with the slicker brush last night so she must have known something was up, now I feel so ashamed for putting up such a fuss!!
This makes a girl feel like dancin' and that's exactly how I acted when I heard this news! Had Mom put "Main Course" by the Bee Gees in the CD player and took a spin around the room! "Blaming it all, on the nights on Broadway..singing those sad songs, singing those straight from the heart songs!" 'Cuse me while I do a little Jive Talkin'...(Blue is standing at the doorway with a really confused look on his face, I finally got him stumped!! Yeah!! He's always asking Mom for that "Bowling For Soup" CD, I think this is the first time he's heard really good music!)

I got my name from one of Mom's favorite Albums, "Every Picture Tells a Story" by Rod Stewart. I was named after a classy lady, Blue was named after a blue dog that hangs around with guy in a striped green shirt named Steve. Guess it doesn't matter where you get your name from, as long as it fits, Blue really does act like a puppy sometimes! I hope all my friends have a really good day today, I think I'll start this day off by visiting them all and giving everyone a treat!

It just too hot!

I haven't been up to much today, just watching Blue chase around after his sparklie balls is exhausing enough. The air is bad, full of smog, so I stayed on the bed most of the day. Mom did give us treats after supper and both of us really enjoyed that, and she made sure she put fresh water down for us several times today. I like my water nice and fresh and especially cold. Late yesterday I had a mild tummy upset, don't know what caused that, maybe the heat and humidity. Ok, I'm off to bed with Daddy now, he rubs my tummy just the way I like it. Purrrrrrrr!

What's a girl to do?

Last week I was subjected to a bath and if that wasn't bad enough, I was clipped too. Dad decided that I needed a blow dry and I had to put up with that nasty noisy thing until I was almost dry. I caught Blue with a definate smile on his puss through the whole thing. Now if that wasn't bad enough I caught Mom giving Cleo the cat next door some of OUR treats! I was watching through the bay window and that Cleo is always on our porch vamping MOM!! I told Blue to watch out for that sneaky orange cat, Canoe, Tabitha and I knew she was trying to move in on our turf and now I find myself alone trying to teach this little scamp stuff and he just won't listen, he thinks all cats should just waltz into our 'space' and get away with it. Today Blue tried to ride on my back as if I were his pony again. I know I'm big, but a horse I'm NOT! It's a good thing Mom caught him in the act. I need some nip and a good nap!
