Buttons is gone

I got this 2 1/2 year old female kitty, a little over a month ago. I thought she was skinny, but other then that, she looked fine. A few days ago, she started hiding and what looked like wasn't eating. I'm not to sure on that because I would put food in her bowl, set her near it and leave the room (she liked to eat in peace) and when I went to check later, it would be gone.

Yesterday, I found her with her bottom side all wet and smelly, like she urinated where she was laying. I called the vet and took her in. Her red blood cell was at 10%. They ran tests for feline luekemia and feline aids. Those came back negative. They ran a chem. test and couldn't really tell what was going on. My vet gave me some options, transport Buttons to a vet in Orchard Park for a blood transfusion (considering that was the only vet in my area that did it), but it would have been risky; send her home with medication (prednisone and a dewormer), but that would have been a serious risk to her or put her down. I had no other option, because if I brought her home, she wouldn't have made it through the weekend. She ended up purring her approval to me, but it's still hard. I had to make the same decision for Flash. It doesn't get any easier.

I feel so guilty about this and ticked off as well, because my room mate and I decided to help out a friend, who was supposed to be moving. I now know that she was sick before we got her. The vet could even tell that, especially with her low red blood cell count. She said that it doesn't drop low like that overnight. It takes a while for it to happen. We're thinking it was blood cancer.

I honestly don't think I can deal with this anymore. I don't know if I take in any more animals. We love you Buttons. Hang with Flash and Starlight. They'll take good care of you.
