Favorite Toy: Probably bugs.
Favorite Nap Spot: In the back yard anywhere. Under the gazebo on the covered spa or steps.
Favorite Food: Any canned food, he wasn't picky.
Skills: Being able to keep four paws on the ground when we had windy days.
Arrival Story: A stray cat had kittens in the bushes by my front porch. I just had to keep Ashes, he was the cutest.
Bio: We moved when Ashes was about four years old to a house on a hill with nothing but coyotes, snakes, and other wildlife right behind us. The first day he hid in back of the dryer in the garage, the second day he vanished. We were heartbroken. But nine days later in the evening I heard a cat howling his head off at the top of his lungs. I ran out to find that he came home and decided his roaming days were over. I was amazed that he found his way back. He wasn't skinny, so he must have eaten something somewhere, and he never ventured far again. He loved to lay on the sunny slope and chase leaves, bugs and lizards. On rainy days he took rufuge under the gazebo. He wasn't afraid of anything, but he was very sweet natured. We had winds up to 90mph at this house, and I will never forget the day I tried to get him to come in. He was running towards me, or at least trying to, and he was going sideways. It took forever to get to me. In 1991 Ashes started to stay away. One day he came to me and I knew something was wrong. I immediately took him to the vet, and his bloodwork said he had feline aids. He was very far gone, and I went in to say goodbye. Ashes laid there very proudly and lifted his head just a bit to see me. I told him I was sorry that I had to leave him there and that I loved him, and with that he laid his head back down. I made the mistake of turning back and he was watching me with his eyes half open. It was as though he knew it was his time, and wanted to be there so that he could go peacefully with their help. I had the strangest feeling then as though he could read my mind and I was reading his. I had never been in this situation before, and it tore me apart. I don't remember walking out or getting home. I brought Christina home from kindergarten and told her about Ashes. It didn't sink in right away because for about three days she would ask me when Ashes was coming home. She finally cried one day and somehow we recovered little by little. I received a sympathy card from the vet about a week later and they all had signed it, and I just found that card after all this time, I had saved it. I still have a hard time looking at his pictures, and I will add some others when I find them. Ashes, when I left you that day you took a big chunk of my heart. But that's fine with me. Love - Mom

Mom put me in Catster yesterday. I know it was hard for her, probably because I was her very first kitty cat! This is a cool place for all kitties, and I'm glad to be here. Thanks Mom, oh Kiki and Gracie are here with me, we're okay!
