Arrival Story:
Mannie was found on day one of "Ice Storm '96" , huddled on a manure pile (hence his name--tidied up a bit) for warmth, meowing his last pitiful cries for help. He was maybe 4 weeks old, and the skinniest---truly only fur and bone---kitten I had ever seen. Our power had been out for hours and the roads were impassable, and though I worked in a vet clinic, at that time had nothing in the way of IV fluids on hand, so I wrapped his tiny, nearly lifeless body in a towel, placed him next to the fire, and gave him drops of warm sugar water till he began to come around. Then throughout the day and night, every hour or so, gave him droppers of baby food. By day four--Thanksgiving Day--Mannie was able to lap his own meal of turkey baby food and well on his way to new life.

Mannie has his own special spunk --undoubtedly what got him through that rough beginning-- and view of the world and it's inhabitants. He will walk right up to someone, rub, seem quite friendly, and then suddenly step back, swat and walk off, as if to say "Humpff, well, you're not quite to MY standards !" Sadly Mannie left this world December 27, 2006. He ended this life the way he started--a true warrior.
