Arrival Story: I had been married for six years and my daughter was five years old, I decided that something furry with four legs and a meow would enhance our home and our lives, I had a grey cat when I was growing up and wanted another one, so I asked my sister-in-law, if her cat Old Woman had a grey kitten could we have it, several months went by then one day when visiting my sister law said that Old Woman had had kittens and that there was a grey one among them, needless to say I was thrilled and about seven weeks later Smokey came home with us, one day we nearly lost him when I switched on the vacuum cleaner forgetting that the window was open, Smokey nearly got out , I just managed to grab his tail , he had only been with us for a few days and hadn't yet been out.

Bio: While living at his first house with us he used to accompany us on walks. We lived right on the edge of a town next to farm land and open countryside with a river and woods in the valley below us, we used to walk there regularly and if Smokey was about and awake he would come too, At first if we went a bit farther than he was used to we would have to pick him up and carry him back until he knew where he was then he would walk the rest of the way. When my then husband changed jobs, Both Smokey and Smudge knew that once every two weeks on a Friday he would bring fish home for them, they would both wait by the gate for him and if I tried to feed them they didn't want to know, they just wanted their FISH!. Smokey lived a very happy and relatively problem free life right up until the last few months when the vet said that he had Chronic Renal Failure, at that time it was just accepted that it was part of the ageing process and no treatment was offered unlike today. The last few days he was uncomfortable but not in any pain. I didn't let him outside unless I was with him, The last evening I knew it was to be his last because of the way he looked around the garden, it was as if he was saying goodbye to the place he loved.
He came to bed as usua l& went to the bridge peacefully at 00-45am the morning of July 4th 1995. Smokey will always be missed. Bless you Smokey.

Forums Motto: I want to go for a walk.
