Arrival Story:
Once again, we were working at a customer's house, and noticed two little black kittens playing in the shrubs. We asked if they were his, and he said that they just showed up a few days ago, and he hoped we would take them because he was not feeding them and they had already narrowly escaped being run over by his wife's car. We were not in a position to take in any more cats, so we discussed which shelter to take them to. The only unlucky thing about a black cat is that no one wants to adopt them. I was at the truck when I heard the wife starting to back out of the driveway. I couldn't see the kittens anywhere. As she backed into the street, PLOP!, out fell one kitten into the middle of the road. They were on the rear axle! I held my breath and watched as she drove over the top of the kitten, thankfully missing her. The kitten ran crying across the street and hid in the bushes. I waited and watched for the second one to fall, but never saw it. We searched, but could never find the second kitten. Her life had changed in an instant, she was truely all alone now. I guess this one was meant for us after all.

After a clean bill of health from the vet's, except for being underweight (her ribs were showing) , and some flea medicine, she came home with us. We introduced her to our gang, and she moved in and acted like she'd always been here. There was the usual hissing and protests from the other cats, but she wasn't buying it! We set her up with a shallow little litter pan because we use a top entry box (Clevercat brand) that we thought would be too high for her to reach. She took one look at the little pan, one look at the big pan and said, "I'm a big girl, I don't need a baby pan!", climbed up and into the box, did her business, and jumped right back out. She climbs our tall bed like Mount Everest! Nothing phases her, she has quite a personality! UPDATE: When Kate was about three years old she developed asthma. Through the years she had her good days and bad days with it. Toward the end of her 9th year you could tell she was tired, looking thin and weary. But she was her spunky self right up to her final days. Nothing ever bothered our Katie, she was one special little girl, now our special little angel.

Kiss and Tell, Kate's Diary

Thank You Friends

I have been an Angel for two weeks now and it seems like yesterday. How can time go by so fast and then sometimes so slow?

I finished my thank you's this morning and I sure hope I did not leave anyfur out. Everyone was so nice to me and I received such beautiful gifts and kind words. It really helped to ease the sorrow.

First thing tomorrow I start classes here to learn to be a Guardian Angel. It's an awesome honor and an angel's first duty. I'm nervous but I'm pretty sure I will love it.

Angel kisses,

I have so many friends to thank but I need to wait until mom's hand and shoulder are better before we can thank each of you individually. Today she and I read together all the lovely messages, rosettes, gifts and wings sent to my page. Each one is special and precious to us both.
*Kate blows a soft kiss*

My angel family met me here and will begin to show me around the beautiful gardens. I promise to write more when I get acquainted here.
Once more, thank you all for being so kind to me and helping mom get through this.

Angel kisses from Kate

Katie left us this morning. She had been fading the last several months. She suffered from life long asthma. We both loved her very much. Kate was a perfect little girl who never gave us a moment of trouble. I will write her a better tribute soon because she deserves so much more.
I love you baby. God has you now.
