Arrival Story: Well this is actually my mom's cat. SInce my mom isn't computer savvy, I will do this for her. After my mom's cat Pete passed away, she was devestated and said she never wanted another cat, because she just couldn't go through that again. But, I kept catching her holding his picture and crying. After a while, I decided that she needed another cat to be able to get over the loss of Pete. I went to the shelter several times, specifically looking for a tuxedo cat, just like Pete. I found this little girl and there was also a little boy cat that looked like her too. I couldn't decide which to get. Well, I left and came back the next day and Petra was gone. I realized she had been adopted. I went to the desk to ask about her and this little teenage girl walked in the door holding her. She said she had adopted her, but her mom made her bring her back to the shelter because she wasn't "small and young enough". I didn't understand that because she was very tiny and not even 3 months old. Anyway, I decided that I had to have her. Well, I adopted her and took her straight to the Vet to make sure everything was okay, I knew mom couldn't stand to lose another cat, so I didn't plan on taking her home if she wasn't well. I didn't know and was very fearful of how my mom would react anyway. Well, our very trustse vet said she was getting a upper respiratory infection (I saved her just in time, because the workers said that if she even sneezed before I got back to get her they would put her to sleep..they were very rude) Anyway, he said he also thought she had some kind of intestinal parasite and most likely she wouldn't live. Well, I just didn't believe that and although I debated what to do, there was no way I was taking her back to the shelter. AT the time, I was still home, so I had a 12 yo cat there too and was scared he would get something. I was told to keep the seperated until she was well.
I got home with her and I had on a huge black overcoat and I tucked Petra down in the pocket of my coat and wrapped her up. I went into the house to try to break it to mom slowly. But about the time I got to her and was trying to prepare her, that little kitten just stuck her head out of my coat. WEll mom went ballistic! That didn't last very long in about 15 minutes she said I know what I will name her, I will name her Petra after her dearly departed Pete. Well, Petra got really sick after that, she had the upper respiratory so bad that she had bubbles coming out of her nose. Mom nursed her night and day. Within a week, they were inseperable. Mom had been worried how my dad would take having another cat, now she is my Dad's big baby too. My husband calls her Satan, but she really isn't that bad. She just has a attitude, especially with other cats.
