Arrival Story: Good ole Mr. Bushy. He's my oldest kitty being approx 12-13 yrs old now. Wouldn't know it though, he acts like he's 2! He was my husbands & I first cat together. When we were dating I talked him into visiting our local Humane Society. I told him we didn't have to go to adopt anyone, just to look (hee hee hee). ;-) There were so many kitties I wish I could have taken them all. It always breaks my heart to see so much love in one place. They all reach out for you just wanting to be taken home. If you've ever been to a shelter, you know how it can be. But then I saw him. A black & white bush. About 1.5 yrs old and very friendly. What 1st attracted me to him was his eyes. A very pale green with black along the bottom lids. It looked as though he had eyeliner on! His previous owners gave him up because they didn't want him anymore. Well, lucky for us they did! After some convincing to my better half, we adopted him. I wanted him to be an inside cat (as I think it's much better for the cats), but we quickly learned Patches would not have anything to do with that. So, relunctantly, I had to put him outside. He was never happier! Patches is very affectionate and over the years has won not only my heart but also my husbands and anyone else that comes to visit.
July 2006 In June Patches was diagnosed with Diabetes. Despite treatments, food, care and love he continued to decline at a rapid rate. In July bloodwork was done again and he was taken to a specialist at the University. It was determined Patches had a rare condition called Cushing's Disease. After long talks with the specialist and our vet, a decision was made. I couldnt let my long time friend suffer any longer. I cant tell you how hard it was - I cant even begin to describe what I felt, so I wont. The only thing I do know is that I miss & love Patches dearly - that is something that will never change and noone can ever take away my precious memories of the years we had together.
