Arrival Story:
A cat came by my house several times in August and September of 1993. I let her stay with me overnight and fed her if she didn't go home. On September 18, 1993, I found her mother, who said that her black cat didn't like the other two cats in her house. I explained what went on for the past few weeks, so she looked at my house and then asked me if I could make my home hers. I was more than happy to; after all, she adopted me by coming by my house! Her previous mother called her Black Cat and I named her Abby. The name fit her and she answered to it. She was between 2 1/2 and 4 years old when she came into my life, and she gave me 11 of the best years. From the kink at the end of her tail and her many vocalizations, she had some Siamese in her. She hissed and growled at other cats at first, but became more tolerant and then made two cat friends (both black cats) later.

Abby passed away on November 24, 2004 from lymphoma. It was the night before Thanksgiving (US) and I thank her for all the time she gave me. She's my first cat and I will always love and miss her. Abby is a one and only who can never be replaced.

With Love On Our 21st You Got Me Day Anniversary

Abby, this is to tell you I still remember 21 years ago tonight as if it happened last night.

Someone put a big fence in front of where we lived since last year at this time. I hope someone lives there, but I’m almost sure no one does. It isn’t the same anymore and I didn't walk by the place because of that. I only walked by it a few times this year as I went to the grocery store that is close by.

Although I have taken care of Lisa a lot for a while now, I will never forget you. Lisa has cancer and is getting treated for it. She eats, is active and not ready to join you yet. When the time comes for her to meet you, she will tell me.

I still know that someday we will be together again. I love you always, my catgirl Abby.

Thanks to Catster for naming my writing Diary of the Day! Mom saw my award when she got home from Thanksgiving lunch and was pleasantly surprised.

And thanks to everyone who gave me and Lisa presents!

In Loving Memory On Your 9th Bridge Anniversary

Lisa sat in the window as I looked at your mail, pictures, collars and tags from my bed. One of the sympathy cards has a drawing of a tabby cat on it, which is what Lisa is. This card came from a vet who started at the clinic you went to only days before you went to the Bridge. You never got to meet him and he became Lisa’s vet in 2005.

If you sent me my next cat, you sent me to the shelter I volunteered at and Lisa the tabby cat chose me.

After years of emptiness where we lived, the place finally became an apartment again and someone recently moved in.

I wish whoever lives there now well in their new place. I do not want to move back—and it wouldn’t be the same with you missing from the house. I like where I am with the kitty you chose for me, a cat who like you, needed a home where she had to be an only cat.

Thanks for showing me the way to Lisa after you went to the Bridge. Although it has been nine years since you joined the world of departed pets, I will always love and remember you.

Abby, you will always be my catgirl and I know I will see you again.
