Arrival Story:
When Milo was a kitten the neighbors aquired him from another neighbor down the road. However, unknown to the children's parents the little boy was abusing Milo unmercifully. We talked to our neighbors about the abuse but they didn't see it and thought we were being nosey. My husband set out to protect the skittish kitten as much as possible and spent months slowly but surely winning his confidence. We had two other cats at the time so Milo found some welcome solace with the two females and learned to use the pet door post haste whenever the neighbor boy decided it was time to have "fun" with him. With very little sadness our neighbors moved into the city. The only one who could touch Milo was my husband, son, and myself. They asked if they could leave Milo with us, we said, "YES"! And he is still with us to this day.

Bio:
Last year, tragically and horribly, we lost two of our three cats to a pack of dogs that began terrorizing the area a little over a year ago. Milo was the only one of our kitties who survived. We thought our hearts would break but Milo was a comfort and we slowly recovered from the sudden and traumatizing loss. We did find out that Milo adores being an only child. His personality has blossomed even more over the last year. We used to be able to only pet him from the shoulder blades up. He now allows us to pet him all over, even a little bit on his tummy. The only thing that hasn't changed about Milo is his loathing of going to the Vet's office. He literally becomes a screeching, clawing wild cat at the Vets!!! It's traumatic for ALL parties concerned... thank goodness he's a healthy little bloke that has only needed his yearly vet care... We love him dearly but he really is a man's-man cat. He adores my husband and my son... he tolerates me when he wants treat or to play with his favorite string. On April 30th I am going to bring an attention competitor into our home, Princess Pikachu a 5 year old Coton de Tulear. I'm praying that Princess' non-agressive and sweet disposition will eventually win Milo's tolerance, if not love. I am going to let Milo set the meeting pace for the two and pray for the best. My husband and son don't think Milo will cotton to a Coton, but we'll see... Princess and I want to become involved in the Therapy Pet program in the local area so she and I will busy with that training, which I hope will give Milo enough time to get used to her. Milo often shuns my attention in favor of my husband and son's so I think the only time he'll really mind her is if I'm giving her some attention he thinks should be his... Again, I'm truly praying that Milo will eventually learn to accept and love her too... we'll just have to see how the little fellow handles a little competition... I'll keep you posted in the weeks to come... Wish us luck! :0)

In Loving Memory of Our Faithful Friend

Gosh, this is so difficult... Even though this is the normal cycle of life it is the most painful part... the close of the circle...

On Saturday, July 6th, 2007, Milo passed away peacefully in my husband's arms... He laid his little head down, closed his eyes, and was gone...

How can one describe the pain of losing a good and faithful friend? How can one describe the pain of absence?

All I know is that he no longer is waiting for each of us when we come home from work at night... his fluid movements upstaged by his tail that would stick straight up in the air in a sweet greeting...

Milo is also no longer gazing longingly at the refrigerator reminding us, gentlely at first, that he wants his treat of a slice of lunch meat for being such a marvelous cat. And if we didn't produce the object of his fixation in a reasonable timeframe we would be scolded then bumped and nudged and our legs covered in black and white cat fur until we would comply...

We no longer have a vigilant watch cat patroling the perimeter of our yard to ward off any bird, rabbit, squirrel, mouse, mole, lizard, turtle, or butterfly with the timarity to venture into his domain. And when Milo felt all was well in his kingdom, he would plant himself in the shade, high up on the old playset that our son's grandfather built many moons ago. There he would lay for hours among the spider plants and petunias, sleeping mostly, but ready to spring into action at a moments notice if need be...

We miss his gracefulness, his intelligence, and his beauty... but mostly we miss his companionship, his comfort, and his love...

We love you Milo... We won't ever forget you... And we are so grateful you were a part of our lives... We are better human beings because you chose to share your life with us... our precious, faithful friend, and companion, Milo.

Well, I never said I was the great communicator... unless food is involved of course... But I couldn't let that Princess creature add to her diary without having a say myself! No way!

It's cold down here lately so I can't move as quickly as usual, but I'm still more graceful and handsome than that ole' dog, who has taken up residence in MY house!

I have to admit, but don't you dare tell her I said this--I'll deny it catagorically--but during the day she's pretty good company. She leaves me alone to sleep in the nice recliner my human bought just for me... I wonder why HE wants to sit in it too!?! Bloody cheek I'd say!!!! :o(

Anyway, when my humans come home from work, they take Princess for a walk. She goes completely bonkers... I've had to learn to stay a tail space away or she'll give me whip lash swishing that annoying tail everywhere and barking so loud I feel it all the way to my paw pads!

When they leave for thier walk I like to escort them off the premise--hoping my humans are taking that dog somewhere where she won't come back! But so far they have brought her back everytime!!! I mean how hard can it be to get a dog to run away??? I thought that's what they do! Especially if they see a cat! Katie bar the doors!! A canine is a coming!!!

One good thing is that I have finally managed to train her the correct way to greet a cat. Yup she walks up to me slowly and respectfully. If I move forward we bump noses and then she is on her way. It's a small price to pay to get her out of my way...

Oh well, I may as well face it... she's here to stay... but I still don't have to LIKE it!

Have very Meowy week y'all!

In The Spirit Of Peace On Earth...

Hi y'all! Happy Holidays!

I figured this being the holiday season and all, I should add my greetings and best wishes for everyone to have a fantastic New Year!

It's hard to fight the spirit of this time of year! Although, I HATE the cold weather! These old bones of mine ache... especially the back hips...

But that didn't stop me from pouncing on that Princess interloper! Oh yes I did! She was acting so uncouth barking and chasing after a bone one of my humans were throwing for her to run after and bring back.

By the third brush with her flying tail, I decided to get her attention, so I waited... timed it just right... then I POUNCED on her!!!! She was so surprised I would have died from laughing... if I could laugh that is!

But she's O.K. I guess... Do you know I even allowed Princess Pickachu to sit on my human's lap while I laid down by his side. WHO SAID I COULDN'T SHARE????

Again Meowy Christmas, Hoppy Hannukah, and Bodacious Qwanza Y'all! :o)
