Mom joined Catster over 2 years ago, and only took time to check back periodically. A lot has changed since then. They bought a house, which we moved to at the end of March 2007. It was traumatic for everyone, especially me. First off, I peed on the futon. Shortly thereafter, I fell from a 2nd story deck (even though papa told momma that neither I nor my brother Apollo could squeeze through the rails and even so, would not fall.) See, momma is intuitive. I was scared, but seemed OK. Then I started losing weight. My mom noticed I was drinking more water than usual prior to the move, but didn't think much of it at the time. She was, and still is, out of her mind with so much going on.
Anyway, my parents took me to the vet. They did blood work, which was normal, and eventually a test for FIP, also negative. Mom recently took me back for a blood sugar monitoring or whatever it's called. It was not fun. I had to stay at the vets all day. They gave me insulin and checked my levels, which started off over 500, throughout the day. I was allowed to go home after 10 hours. Now I have to have insulin shots twice a day (3 units). Mom is not so sure she's even doing it right, but I do seem better. I never thought I would say this, but I hope to put on a few pounds. I am down to a scant 10 1/2 lbs, a far cry from the 16 or so I used to be. My new nick name is tiny girl. My brother by the way, seems huge, like possibly 19 lbs. We are no longer eating dry food, which is way too high in carbs and could be partially responsible for all of this in the first place.
So, looks like my life will be changing, but momma loves me and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep me around as long as possible. I hate the thought of having to go back to the vet next Monday, but I need to be rechecked to make sure this insulin dosage is working.
