Arrival Story: Friday the Thirteenth, in December of 2013. Buddy had had a bad run of bad luck, and things weren't looking good. It was Minnesota, and not just winter but a vicious cold spell: a stretch of days with high temps below zero, and lows at night in the minus twenties. As if that wasn't bad enough, Buddy had a nasty intestinal parasite - not worms, but a microbial bug - causing constant diarrhea, so he got little benefit from anything he might have managed to catch... which was probably not much, since he had been declawed. A good-sized cat who should have weighed eleven or twelve pounds, he was down to about five pounds. Skin and bones, extremely weak, and on top of all that, he had frostbitten paws; one paw had just raw meat for paw pads.
Friday the Thirteenth, in December of 2013, turned out to be Buddy's lucky day. A young lady named April went outside to take out the trash, and found Buddy out there in bad shape, and brought him in. Later that day, a wonderful woman I work with named Bonnie (April's Mother) asked me "Do you want a cat?" I said "Bonnie, you know we already have two dogs and two cats!", to which she replied "Well, we have two dogs and THREE cats!" And she proceeded to tell me about her daughter finding a cat outside in that awful weather and awful condition. I called home and asked Pauline if we could take in another critter, and quickly explained the situation. Well, of course she couldn't say no either, so I made arrangements to meet Bonnie in the parking lot after I got off work that night. Buddy sang to me all the way to his new home.
Friday the Thirteenth, in December of 2013, was OUR lucky day too.
