Arrival Story:
Smokey was brought into our rescue as a six month old "female" feral cat. I picked him up, noticed he was NOT a female and realized he was only about 10 - 12 weeks old. My first cat as an adult was a long haired "smokey" black, and I was smitten. I have between 8 and 10 small dogs in my house on any given day, so I was currently without a cat since it had never gone well with trying to bring one into the mix. Nevertheless, I took Smokey home and put him in my bedroom behind a baby gate. The dogs barked ALL NIGHT, and I was going to bring him back to the kennel in the morning but since he was feral, I couldn't catch him. That night when I got home he was at the gate, trying to make friends with the dogs. I opened the gate and Smokey marched out and became a friend to ALL the dogs!

On a rainy and foggy morning Smokey ventured out to start his morning rounds. Unfortunately, he didn't make it back to the house. Sadly, once a feral cat, Smokey did all he could to escape into the big outdoors so finally, I gave in, knowing what could happen. My screens were saved thereafter, and at least he was doing what he loved best when he passed on to the greater world above.

Smokey's Subtleties, or not!

Watch out, Angel mousies!!!

The other night Smokey did not come inside when it got dark. I called and called to him, but couldn't convince him to join us in the warm house. Somehow I had a bad feeling. It was raining and foggy and I was nervous.
The next morning he wasn't at the door when I put the dogs out.
Sadly, Smokey was found in the road by one of the vets next door.
I am crushed and devastated by his loss, and while I DO blame myself for allowing him outside I must remember that he was a feral cat, born to a feral mother, and really was more at home outside than in my house.
Everything that made Smokey who he was resulted from his worldly outdoor experiences. He became the Smokey we all knew and loved when he was out with the dogs in the field, or helping us at a yard sale, or working in the garden with me, or just out for a walk with me.
I shall miss him greatly, there will never be another Smokey Cat, but I will also cherish the memories (and photos) of his great escapades. Even all his dog buddies are missing him!
Hope you give those mousies up there a run for their money, Smoke!

A mousie in my house!

Unbelievable...tonight I was resting in my bed that Mom put on our food container. Everyone else was in the bedroom snuggled down for a long winters night.
Suddenly, I spied a little brown MOUSIE heading across the sink counter, right toward our food bowl. With the utmost silence, I hopped out of bed and mosied on over to see the mousie. I waited a bit to get my bearings then jumped right up onto that counter and surprised that mousie! He was shocked to see me so I grabbed him and ran into the bedroom to show Momsie.
She was surprised to see me jump up on the bed but was even more surprised to hear squeeking coming from my mouth. She turned on the light, saw my mousie and immediately pushed me off the bed. Mean Momsie!!!
At that point both Toto and Beanie heard the squeeking and jumped off the bed, too. Even Cash, (he is our new cat, Emmys dad, and he is a fuu fuu cat!), well, he jumped off the bed and ran over to see what I had.
I am sure that Cash has never, ever seen a mousie, having lived in that cattery all his life. But, I gotta hand it to him...he was sure acting like he knew what to do with a mousie!
Soo, now we have Toto and Beanie barking, me GROWLING, Cash snuffling (he has a squashed in Himalayin nose!), the mousie squeeking and Mom screaming at ALL of us to get out of the bedroom right now.
I know when I am not wanted...I hopped over the baby gate and headed to the kitchen to enjoy my midnight snack. Cash followed, nice jump over that gate, I guess he is getting in shape finally! I settled on my rug and started eating my mousie.
Yes, I actually did share it with Cash...I haven't much cared for him moving into MY house and acting like we were all lower class. But, tonight he actually showed a little spunk, especially when he didn't back down at all with me growling at him to keep him away from MY mousie.
I am back sleeping in my lie on lion bed on Moms bed...gee, I wonder if she is remembering I always have to puke after I eat a mousie??!!

Batcat???? NOT ME!

Suddenly I have discovered my profile photo is no longer me!!! I yelled at Mom for changing it when I wasn't watching but she swears she didn't touch it.
Come to think of it, I have also noticed some of my dog family are not who they appear to be, either! Quincy keeps changing every single week for some reason, and Mom still can't find Angie's original Howlaween photo, it has vanished in cyber space.
We were told that giving a treat would sometimes get the right photo back... It worked for Gertrude, but Mom gave me LOTS of treats and I am still showing up as Batcat. Hmmm, wonder if the real Batcat has MY Jack O'lantern?????? Maybe if you are reading this, Mr. Batcat, you could try giving a treat???? Couldn't hurt! Nice costume, BTW.
If ANY cat sees my Jack O'Lantern floating around in cyber space please give it a treat and send it back to my page, I miss it!!!
