Rocky went back to the vet yesterday for his followup visit from a month ago. He goes back in another month for his permanent shots, his rabies shots and, Yikes!, to be neutered.
The vet was very complimentary on both Rocky's good looks (he loves his color) and his personality. I still can't believe that a kitten this nice found us out of the blue the way he did. Rocky was very good at the vet's office and cooperated with everything that had to be done.
We bought the cats a tower to play and sleep on (I have to get the pictures up!). Rocky loves it! Alex, meh...no so much.
Rocky already knows his name and comes when called. He does the darnest thing when he wants to be fed: he'll come into the kitchen (I'm the cook in my family, something I really enjoy, so I took on the duties many years ago), puts his paw on my foot to get my attention and then, when I look down, he flops on his side and mews at me. That is his way of saying "How about some chow, pal?" Darn kitten eats anything you put in front of him, too. When he stops growing and his activity level settles down, I am going to have to be careful about the amount of food he gets because I fear he may turn into a real porker with such a voracious appetite.

Rocky is growing on, as you can imagine, that's what a kitten does. He goes back to the vet this coming Monday for his followup shots and we're gonna discuss a date for the unkindest cut of them all. The sooner, the better I say.
Everyday is a play day for this sweet young thang. And He Plays Hard! Alex and he get into some rough wrestling matches. Every once in a while we have to remind Alex to take it easy on the youngster and Alex always listens and lets up.
We have noticed that Rocky is not quite the non-stop play boy he was last week. He takes longer naps during the day and is ready for a night long sleep earlier in the evening. Last night Rocky spent the night tucked under my wife's arm and Alex slept between us about knee high all night...then they woke us up about 4:00 AM wrestling on the bed. Thanks, guys! Appreciate your early morning enthusiasm.

Rocky is my first house kitten to raise. Well, that is to raise in partnership with my wife. Oh, I've had barn kittens but all of the house cats have been already grown rescues. My wife raised a couple of kittens, one before we met, and a rescue that I was too busy working to have any part in raising.
It's funny that Rocky wandered into our life the way he did. I already had it in my mind, after losing Tabitha, our golden retriever, so unexpectedly, that I would like another house cat and I preferred it be a kitten. And, boom, out of the clear blue, here came Rocky.
Rocky is special...really special. Fearless, playful, loving, intelligent, just a joy to have around. And a natural clown. The wife took a video of him throwing himself in front of a broom while I sweep the hardwood floor with a broom. He lays on his side and pretends he is a dust mop, so I get to sweep and dust at the same time. I plan on posting this as soon as I can find the time to process it and upload it to the site. What a hoot!
I want to keep him as our kitten forever, but I know that can't happen so I am really looking forward to seeing what kind of mature cat he turns out to be. I think he is going to be an absolute blast to have around! Plus, as a full grown cat, I can cover more floor area per broom stroke...

Severe weather rolled through the area yesterday causing severe damage, both on our place and throughout the area. It was Rocky's first encounter with bright, close lightening and the ensuing thunder booms.
Didn't phase him a bit. He actually sat in the window for a while watching the show. At one point he looked back at me with a look on his face that seemed to say: "Oh, wow! This is so Cool!"
His Uncle Alex, however, was totally freaked.
First time I have ever seen horizontal hail!
Tough little guy, my little Rocky.

I use my Android phone as my night clock / alarm on a charging dock next to my side of the bed. Last night Mr. Verizon decided that 3:15 A.M. was THE perfect time to do an upgrade to the system. I was awakened by the blinding light of the phone, no longer in a dim clock mode, doing its upgrade. Of course, the moment I awoke, I realized I had to make a trip to the bathroom.
I no sooner addressed the porcelain appliance, than I felt a tiny fur bearing, purring mammal rubbing against my ankles. When I finished my business, I scooped the little critter up and placed him on the bed while I crawled back in under the covers. I was just drifting back to slumber land when little Rocky, purring as hard as he can, walked up my body, got on my pillow and laid down, his head touching my forehead (I was lying on my side). Then he reached out with a tiny kitten paw and placed it on my cheek.
There was no way I was going to let myself fall back to sleep while this tenderness was going on! How sweet and precious, and I wasn't about to miss a second of this special moment in time! We stayed that way for about 5 minutes then Rock got up and moved to the foot of the bed and I was able to slip off to sleep. But, wow! What a wonderful kitten Rocky is...and he just walked into our lives out of nowhere!

Here is Rocky's day:
Get up with Alex and Dad at 4:30AM. Go Potty. Eat.
Play, play, play, play, play, play, play, eat, play, play, play, play, play, eat, go potty, play, play, play, play, play, play. Pass out.
Wake up four hours later, go potty, eat, repeat as above until 9:30PM or there about. Pass out for the night.
Get up the next day and repeat.

I've been wanting to find the time all week to get a dairy started for little Rocky but the time just wasn't there or I was too tired to even want to attempt to start.
Finally got a moment to start something:
Rocky was introduced to the less than a week ago after getting the go ahead from the vet. He had no trouble adjusting to an indoor environment,if fact, he appears to love it as he has made no attempt to go out the doors the various doors when they are opened. It helps that we have a big open house and the kitten can run, run, run and play, play, play.
He already uses a scratching post, we litter trained him while he was in the barn, and he knows where the feeding spot is (and, being a growing boy, he is a good eater!).
I'm kinda pinching myself because I can't believe that such a nice kitten just found us out of the clear blue. How did he get to our place? Why our house? We only have one other house anywhere near to us and he came to us. After we lost our golden retriever girl a few weeks ago, I had mentioned to my wife that I couldn't do another a dog but I did, kinda, maybe, have a kitten in mind...and one too nice to believe shows up!
As I write this, Rocky is sound asleep draped over my left foot, he is dreaming and making little kitten noises. From the time he gets up with me and Alex, around 4:30 AM until about noon, this kitten plays and runs like he's never going to stop. The one thing I can do to finally get all of the fuel out of him is get out "Da Bird," which he loves, loves, loves, and have him chase that until he's spent. Then it's nap time for a few hours. He gets another energy rush in the evening but nothing like the early morning escapades.
