Gray and White

Favorite Nap Spot:
spare bed room, under the covers, and Daddy's lap while he sleeps too
being aloof, standing on hind legs and meowing to be held
Daddy found me out side crying (after her thought a catbird had taken up residence). But I was too scared to let him get close to me. Mommy spent her spare time out in the lawn chair letting me get used to her. Then one evening (and 36 mosquito bites later) mommy and daddy finally got a hold of me.
I got my name in a funny sort of way. My parents were talking with my aunt and uncle as they drove through the mountains. I am sort of gray colored, and at the time they were not sure if I was a boy or girl, because I wouldn’t get close to them. So a lot of name were thrown around, Smokey, Soot, Gray baby. Then they went passed the Kingsford factory and someone said, “what about Kingsford”. And mommy grinned and said how about Ash, since he looks like burnt charcoal (mommy used he as a general term). Daddy knew the truth though, mommy is obsessed with the Army of Darkness comic, and the lead character is named Ashley J. Williams. He laughed and they all agreed that would work if I was a boy or girl. So my name is Ashley Jae.

It was the best of times it was the worst of times.... wait, that’s not right.
Actually my daddy suggested I start this after the passing of my bubby.
So here it goes, my life, thus far, has been pretty ordinary. I was rescues from the elements when I was young and brought indoors to live a very comfy life. I love my family, those still here and those since departed.
The first being I encountered was, Daddy. He mistakenly thought I was a stranded Catbird in the yard. He called Mommy at work and told her he thought there was a kitten under the deck. When she hurried home that night they say me hiding in the strawberry vines. Mommy spent all of her spare time trying to coax me into her arms. But I had other ideas, just to stay out of reach of the aliens.
Then one evening, after mommy had sat out most of the day with me, daddy came home and sat on the stone steps beside me as I drank milk and basked in the sun. He was able to pick me up, I was really scared at first, but after a few minutes of hugs and kisses I was okay with them.
They took me inside to meet the rest of the family.
There was the old one, Ghost Kitty. He was the grumpy old man of the family. I would watching him go in and out every morning and evening. He was tolerant of me, but also let me know that he was old and didn’t waste his time on frivolities. We he finally ‘took the walk’ I waited by the doors for him to return, for almost two weeks. I would look at Mom and Dad like they needed to go find him. Eventually I stopped missing him, at least that I let on to them. I only knew him a single year.
Then there was Fizzy, I enjoyed his company for many years. He would chase me and play with me and then we would snuggle, until I got tired of his twitching and would smack him around. We would chase the red dots, although as he got older he would tend to lay in one spot and watch me do all the work. And you know we never did catch that blasted dot. I still miss him alot.
My parents joke that I can tend to be a bit of a psycho. I will be sound asleep then suddenly hiss and run off. Or the fact that when I am being petted, I will bite the hand in question and run off (it’s a nibble really). When company arrives I stay hidden for a while (if I really don’t know them). Then after a little bit I will wildly run into the middle of where they are sitting, stand on my tiptoes, look at everyone and run off in a ball of fluff. This generally make the entire group laugh and chatter about me.
I like to nibble on noses as they sleep, or gently claw them awake. You know, they need to be up for work at the same time every day, plus I need feed. And I try to pull their hands into a petting motion when I want attention, but honestly who doesn’t do that one.
Hmm, that's all I can think of right now (yawns and stretches). This really has taken up a lot of my valuable nap time, so I will be off.
