Arrival Story:
Tiki’s previous owners gave her up because they couldn’t take her to their new residency (which personally I think is a load of crap, growing up my mother and I never told our landlords about animals we had, don’t judge us haha). So they gave her up to the Dumb Friends League where she stayed for 5 days and then they put her in Petco for a feature adoption. That same day I had been at the Humane Society in Weld County (Evans, CO), looking for a new cat to adopt. I had found a cat named Cassandra who was a love bug, I’m not sure we really had a true connection, but I liked her. In the process of adopting her, a lot of complications came up. I ended up waiting for two hours to get my landlord to fax over approval for the cat to be at our home, with no fax ever coming. I had to put a $20 hold on her, and then proceeded to drive home to pick up the fax myself, and then driving back to the humane society (three hours all together). When I got back to the Humane Society with my landlord’s approval paper, there were more complications because even though I was listed as a household resident, I wasn’t considered “on the lease”, even though my husband was. They wouldn’t take my husband’s name on the lease with me listed as a resident. So even though I spent 5 hours trying to get this cat at this point, and $70 later, they wouldn't let me adopt her. So I drove an hour back home. It obviously wasn’t meant to be, God had another plan, and I needed to accept that. When I got home, I went onto the Dumb Friends League’s website, and came across Tiki’s face. It was the first time I had seen her on the website, and decided to go meet her right then and there. When they opened up her cage for me to meet her, she rubbed against my hand and rolled over onto her back. I spent a little while petting her, sticking my face in her cage while she touched my nose with hers. The Petco manager came up to me and said, “I'm not supposed to express my personal opinion, but if you want her, she's yours. You guys have something awesome going on between you two." And she was mine, I took her home.
