Cat Soup

Mom wants me to get better. I have not been eating and I have to in order to take my medicine. Mom has been struggling with what I will eat, and getting me to keep down food and/or medication.

So, MY MOM (yes, very proud of her) invented cat soup (or at least we think she did).

Baked skinless boneless chicken breast,
Tune (in water),
Brown Rice,
Warm Water,
Blend until it is a liquid, toss in meds and blend again.

I love the taste and I can’t even tell there is medication in it

She is the best.

Dear Meiko,
If you are not eating, please have your Mom call the vet. It is very dangerous for cats to not eat. They can get fatty liver disease (hepatic lipidosis) if they don't eat for 48 hours or if they get too little calories over a longer time. You can google fatty liver disease in felines.

Sometimes all it takes is just some medicine to settle your tummy and make you eat again. Yes, even more medicine :( I know you don't want that but it's best to find out now what is wrong so that you can get better. We want you to be well.

We have a guest cat who had fatty liver disease and Mom says it cost her an arm and a leg to make her well again and she had to be in the vet hospital for several days (the guest cat - not Mom). So it might be best to nip this in the butt right now, whatever it is that makes you not want to eat.

I hope that you're eating your cat soup. Get better little buddy.

Can you tell me what meds you're on? Timo is right, you need to eat and get the proper calories, not just this soup. You can call the vet and get appetite stimulants to help you eat. What's going on with your health that you need medication? Maybe I can help.

Dear Meiko,
First I wanted to tell you that Alex's Mom has a lot of experience with sick cats. She is very knowledgeable and has a website. Alex' Mom might even be pawmailing you so that you guys can discuss more in private. is her website

That is great that you found a Cat only vet.
I think your Mom should really watch that you at least eat something. Your cat soup has chicken in it, so that's good. Eventually you will need to eat mostly cat food because there is Taurine in there and cats need taurine to survive. (That's why cats can't eat dog food). I am a fickle eater myself. Sometimes I eat a little and then run away because I have playing to do. Then I come back 5 minutes later and eat more. So if your Mom could offer you food several times that might entice you to eat more.

Also, most shelters feed mostly dry food. If you are getting wet food now that is great (wet food is best for cats). But you probably had a radical change of food since moving in. That can upset kitty's tummies. IDK if offered dry food, would you eat some dry food?

Your Mom is doing great with you. Our darn guest cat stopped eating after she moved in here, for unknown reasons. I think it was the stress of moving and us new kitties to adjust to. And I think Timo asked her NOT to eat so much (Timo loves food). Anyway our Mom didn't notice at first. She thought guest cat was eating when Mom was at work. So your Mom is doing so much better than our Mom already.

So it sounds like you have a bad infection and that's why your white blood cells are high and you're on antibiotics. They may be making you nauseous sweetie so do the vet that you are going to on Friday. Ask them if it's okay that you take Pepcid a/c. You need to only take 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet once or twice daily and not with your regular medicine because it'll absorb the meds. This will help with your nausea from the meds. Also I would ask about an appetite stimulant for now because you can't go a week of barely eating like this. If you go to the link that Mietzi gave you for my website, look at the link for fatty liver and you'll see that it's imperative that a kitty eat! Your mom is doing great and we're here to help. It's very, very good that you're going to a cat only vet. They are the best place for you right now. Are you doing any vomiting? or is it just that you're not eating.

Since mom made cat soup, I can drink that. I vomit anything solid. The SPCA has records of me vomiting, they didn't know it might have the food. I am a mystery. I just know my mom has my best interest a heart. It's great she found this website to meet parents like urs to explain about kitty's .

Okay sweetheart ask the vet for something called an anti-emetic to stop that vomiting and ask about he pepcid. Please PLEASE call asap and ask about those things. You need to eat something solid before Friday, it's very dangerous not to.

Meiko Buddy, please have yr Mom call the vet b4 they close for the weekend. Tell them that Meiko can't keep anything solid down and hasn't been able to for some time. And ask about the things Alex suggested.
We're purring for you.
