Arrival Story:
Jack lived with my mother. He originally belonged to a couple who lived on the same street as she does. When they moved to another house at the other end of the block a few years ago, Jack wouldn't stay at the new home and started hanging around at my mother's house. His original owners didn't seem to care, so she took him in.

Jack was a big, friendly, affectionate cat who loved attention. From the first time my mom let him inside he made himself right at home. We don't know how old he was, but one of his original owners told Mom that he was a pretty old cat. His health began to noticeably decline over the past couple of months. We first thought he was having upper respiratory problems, which he had off and on, especially in the winter. But when I arrived at my mom's for Christmas, I noticed (as she had told me on the phone) that he had lost quite a bit of weight just since Thanksgiving and was having a lot of trouble breathing. We took him to the vet ASAP, and X-rays showed that he had tumors in his lungs. The cancer was too widespread and he was in serious distress, so we had little choice except to help him to the Bridge. We took him back home and buried him in Mom's backyard. RIP, sweet Jack. We'll miss you.
