Seal Point

Playing! Eating! Chasing and being chased! Purring! Back Scratches! & her "boyfriend" Chatri!

These neutered boy cats trying to bite your neck when you aren't in the mood.

Favorite Toy:
wand toys with fur or feathers and preferably something that make a sound. Also she appears to think paper towels and toilet paper are wonderful toys, so fun to tear to shreds!

Favorite Nap Spot:
Now that it's winter, a fave spot is lying on the heater vent. but she also likes to nap near me on the couch.

Favorite Food:
raw chicken meat & bones nom nom nom. also Merrick Grammys Pot Pie.

Manipulating the Alter Boys (Sam and Chatri). Playing fetch. And when she wants that yummy chicken she does a little funky dance on her hind legs waving her "hands" and yelling.

Arrival Story:
After my beloved old "Sia-moggy" (((Louis Quatorze))) died this year, I went to a TICA show where I was showing Chatri.... and I fell in love with a beautiful little seal point face with stunning, expressive, luminous blue eyes. My friend Alice who is a breeder of old style Siamese (called "Thai" in TICA) , was showing cats there including her gorgeous queen Katrina (first cousin to my cat Sammy) ...who BTW has a Catster page (Katrina and her Kittens). Alice also had brought along some 3 month old kittens from the first litter from Katrina's lovely blue-point daughter Lidia, who had impressed me from the first time I saw her at 3 months old. I usually like boy cats; my previous cats from both rescues and breeders have been neutered males. But there was this little seal point beauty with a dark brown face and stunning blue eyes, like a little mini- Katrina. I saw her again about 2 weeks later and we started to talk about me possibly taking her. It took me another couple weeks to decide for sure (well OK, it was looking pretty darn sure when I picked out a name for Alice to put on the registration -- "Phai-lin" which means "Sapphire" in Thai. It's pronounced like "Pie Lean"). And in June I drove home from another show with 4 month old Phai-lin.

Phai-lin (officially Alicats Phai-lin of Maewkaew) is a show cat too, and at 10 months old earned her Grand Champion and Double Grand Champion titles in TICA. But she's also a winner of hearts and minds as well as rosettes. Well she won my heart as soon as she looked at me. She won Chatri's in a day, and they quickly became inseperable buddies. Sammy was a harder prospect. He was NOT pleased and let her know it. He even slapped Chatri for being nice to the kitten. But Phai must like bad boys; she seemed fascinated with Sammy, or she just likes a challenge. She started on a concentrated campaign to break down his resistance. Every day she would just go sit by him, or lie down next to him. At first he hissed and growled at her. but he didn't actually hurt her - maybe he didn't really want to lower himself to beat up a 4 month old kitten. Then he just tried to ignore her and pretend he didn't notice her. Then one day, she went and curled up by him and he didn't seem to mind... and when I looked again he was grooming her! Triumph! From then on they have been friends. That's our little sweetie-Phai. She is a determined young lady. ********************************** ********************************** * Phai-lin has an extremely varied, special pedigree, the result of cooperation between people on 3 continents. It is a wonderful example of the work being done to preserve the original Siamese. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Her ancestry is 3/8 from recent imports of Wichienmaat cats from Thailand. ( Wichienmaat is the Thai name for their own native breed of pointed cats that the British would later call the "Royal Cat of Siam" or "Siamese" when they started bringing them to the UK in the late 1800s. Wichienmaats had been around for centuries before that in their native land.) Phai-lin's paternal grandfather and a great-grandmother on her mother's side, are both native Wichienmaats imported from Thailand to the USA. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * and she is 5/8 from pedigreed Siamese that have been bred in the West for 100+ years (primarily from lines of Siamese that were not bred for the more exaggerated type that became popular in show Siamese over the latter half of the 20th century, but still look strikingly like the Wichienmaats from Thailand.) Phai-lin's paternal grandmother is from German/ British lines of Old Style Siamese. * The rest of her Western Siamese ancestry is from several different lines of U.S. Siamese ( that go back before that to the UK and thence to the original imports from Siam )
