Arrival Story:
We went to the Humane Society on February 9, 2005 to look at cats, although we were not going to adopt. Well, you know what happens when you do that, right? We saw Smokey in his cage, hiding under a blanket in the corner. The cage almost looked empty. We coaxed him out and he let us talk to him and pet him through the bars on the cage. We decided we wanted to "meet" him in the "get to know you" room. Well, that was it. He was friendly and curious and he came home with us that afternoon. (He was given up because his previous family had a baby.) We almost didn't get to take him home though because he was spooked by other dogs and people in the lobby when they went to box him up for his ride to his new home. He was a blurry gray streak as he flew out of the volunteer's hands and took off. Animal control had to be called into the office and they had to catch him with a net. Poor guy was terrified when he got put in the travel crate. He's settled in quite nicely and quickly .
