Arrival Story:
I was going through a very rough time in my life, and to top it all off, I had some stray cats living around my house, who had chased a mouse into my house. I decided to get a cat to deal with the problem, and spent forever browsing craigslist and the humane society page, looking for just the right one. One night, I found Ophie. She jumped out at me immediately, she looked exactly like my old cat Milo, so I contacted the lady getting rid of her and she came to meet me. As soon as Ophie walked out of her cage, I knew I was gonna keep her. She's solid white, and has very thick, silky fur, and the biggest, greenest eyes I have ever seen on a cat. As scared as she was, hiding under furniture, she would let me rub her ears, and would even inch forward so I could pet her better. She was a keeper. Over time, as I continued to struggle in my personal life, Ophie kept me strong. I would get sad, or discouraged, and she would jump in my lap and wrap her arms around my arm, and purr and gaze adoringly at me, and I knew I had to stay strong, and keep it together, she was depending on me. She was my little angle, who got me through and gave me the inspiration I needed to pull myself up.

Bio:
Ophie has the sweetest disposition for a cat I have ever seen. She was extremely timid when I first got her, spent a week hiding in a corner in the back storage room, and yet remained a very pleasant cat. She never hissed, and when I would come to her, she would come out long enough to be pet, purring and loving every minute, so I knew there was potential for a great cat in her. I let her spend a few days hiding in the back before I declared it was time for her to come out and explore, so I fished her out, and shut the door. She was very put out, and had to find a new hiding spot, but her new place was behind the curtains at the back door, so she was in sunlight and looking out at the world at least, which I considered better than hiding alone in a dark corner. I would go into the kitchen several times a day, and sit next to her, and pet her and try to coax her into feeling comfortable enough to explore the house. She was very anxious, enough to get colitis, and I was very worried about her adjusting. About two weeks in, I saw an episode of The Cat Whisperer and he used a mouse on a stick to help a cat with emotional problems, something about that kind of toy really kicks in their instincts and helps, so I bought one for her. Amazingly enough it worked. She played with it for hours, even after I set it down and left the room, she stayed out, playing. By the next day she was exploring the house. Her timidness has turned into very polite, proper manners. If she was a person, she would be a southern bell pre-civil war. She never eats or drinks anything that is not hers, including very tempting people food like fish. If she wants in your lap (which is always) she meows one, short, soft, polite meow, and looks at you, waiting on an answer. Once she gets in your lap, she lays there, hugging you, working her little people fingers with sheer joy. Instead of lapping her water, she sits and scoops it in her paw and drinks from her palm. And the best part is now she is super outgoing, very politely of course, and greets everyone who comes in the house, and wants to get in every ones laps. She is very much my pretty princess, and Im very proud of the strides she has made into adjusting from a scared, timid cat into a very social, polite one.
