Arrival Story:
I wanted to get a cat as soon as I got my first apartment and my first "real job." A rescue in Belchertown, Massachusetts had listed "Blackie," a kitten who had been dumped. I went out to adopt her, and when I picked her up she put both paws around my neck and wedged her head under my chin. That did it. The owner of the shelter said that "Blackie" had bonded with white kitten named "Monster," so if I adopted Blackie, I could have Monster for free! So I ended up with a set. Rosa and Mo were inseparable until Mo passed away in 2002.

Rosa and two of her sisters were left in a garbage bag. It's made Rosa very fearful, and any kind of change (new house, new pets) is hard for her. Even though age has made her a little grumpy, she is the sweetest cat around, and the only cat that I've had who gives hugs. Rosa died peacefully on October 30, 2007.

This is my last entry. In a couple of days I'm going to cross over. I don't know if it's really there or what it's like, but that's okay.
I haven't been feeling well for a long time. My fur is falling out and I keep forgetting where I am and what the litter box is for. My hips hurt and sometimes it's hard to walk. I can't keep myself clean anymore and I know I must smell bad, even to people.
I turned seventeen in July (so I hear), and I have trained Fancy to take over, which she has already pretty much done. Lammer is always going to be half-wild, so Fancy is going to have her paws full. I tried to tell Lammer to be as respectful of Fancy as she is of me, but she doesn't listen. Maybe when she grows up she'll learn how to behave.
Fancy and Lammer have been very gentle with me since I've been sick, but my person and I had a talk and I told her that I'm ready to see Moe and Easy again. I don't really want to see the ferrets, but maybe on the other side they aren't such pests.
I hope that my person isn't sad for me for too long.

It's hard to be me

It's so hot! Yesterday I got a long hard combing with the shedding blade because I was leaving fur and hairballs everywhere and the person was too tired to keep running the vacuum and the swiffer. (And it's not like I'm the only fur-bearer in the house!) It made me feel a little better so when I had my morning throwup it was just food and not fur
I don't like to go downstairs anymore because it's hard on my hips, so I get fed upstairs now (although I know that Lammer and Fancy are getting canned food that I'm not allowed to have). Sometimes I sneak down there before she does, and then I get some Fancy Feast because I make myself look pathetic. There are extra litterboxes and piddle pads in the bathtub for me since I stay upstairs most of the time now. It's extra work for the person when she wants to take a shower, but she never complains about it. She says that it's a good excuse not to have people over.

Not Much Going On

You can't believe everything that Lammer and Fancy say. They make it sound like I'm senile and that I sleep all the time, just because I have better things to do than fiddle around on the computer. I'm a little stiff in my hips and the person says that I smell like poop but that it isn't my fault. She got a new litter box and put it in the bathtub so that I don't have to go all the way to the basement relieve myself. She also lined the tub with piddle pads that she got for the ferrets when they were sick. That's really nice of her. It doesn't mean that I'm going anywhere though. She took me to the vet because she thought I was sick but the vet didn't find anything wrong with me. The only thing bothering me is aggravation. Fancy and Lammer argue too much, and I'm not crazy about these crazy new ferrets either. Whenever they are out of their cage, I go where they can't mess with me. I liked things a lot better when we were living in Massachusetts and it was just Moe, her, and me.
