Arrival Story:
Fang's story is a sad one. In the Winter of 2009 I noticed this scruffy, unkempt cat hanging around out garage where we feed the local strays and ferals. He was extremely skittish and underweight from what I could tell through his tangled fur. He would take one look at me and automatically turn tail and hide. Something drew me to him, though, and for months I would sit at night when he would come and eat and soon a trust grew between us. It wasn't until the Summer of 2010, however, when I first got my hands on the emaciated, sickly cat. I was able to bring him inside, shave down the matted fur that had left open sores on his skin and give him a much needed bath. Again my mother wasn't too fond of adding yet another cat into the house but after seeing his poor state she finally said yes after the New Years where he's been ever since.

Fang we believe was abused. He hates men and is frightened of any loud noise as well as brooms and anything similar. He tends to stay mostly off by himself and takes quite a long time to get used to new people and items coming into the house. He also suffers from multiple medical conditions. He has some poor hearing, I think from having ear mites and an ear infection so bad before I rescued him, as well as UTIs and bad arthritis. He currently is on medication for his arthritis and we watch him for signs of recurring UTIs because he refuses to eat the food prescribed by his veterinarian. He may not have too many years left but he will be loved and pampered until then.

Rainbow Bridge...

Fang crossed the Rainbow Bridge July 23, 2013 after falling ill. Unfortunately, he had developed congestive heart failure and didn't show any symptoms until it was too late. He was always a gentleman and as much attention as I doted on him I still didn't see any warning signs to his condition, he kept all his pain to himself like usual. I was planning on having him humanely euthanized Wednesday the 24th of July, however, he took a turn for the worse the Monday prior and ultimately passed Tuesday morning before his Emergency euthanasia appointment. His final hours were spent in his Mama's arms, wrapped up in his favorite blankie, and loved and kissed and told how grateful she had been to have him in her life, how much she loved him. I just hope he knew how much I would have done for him, how much he meant to me. He was cremated and will soon be at home with me once again where he'll stay until I pass, in which case I want my own ashes and however many pets of mine have passed at the time to be released together.

Fly high, old man. Mama loved you, always.
