Arrival Story:
Amy Rose was living in a free-roaming sanctuary in CT when I met her while visiting a friend (the Mama of Junior and Tethys Fluffkins, Jakey, and Stormy) for the weekend. We had stopped by the sanctuary to drop off supplies. Even though Amy was in the 'elder room' she seemed by far the oldest, most fragile cat there. She was so emaciated and bedraggled looking that she broke my heart, but she desperately wanted contact. I sat with her, my hand lightly resting on her skeletal back and skull, and she looked at me and talked to me. I couldn't imagine her continuing to try to fend for herself among younger, stronger-seeming cats. She needed individual care, not a group home. I felt bad leaving her that afternoon, and worse as Sarah and I discussed what if anything we could do for her. She haunted my dreams that night, and at church the next morning, the Gospel and then the priest in his sermon as much as told me she was part of my journey. (I am not particularly religious, but I welcome spiritual indicators when they come to me.) So I arranged to adopt her, and drove back to the sanctuary before leaving CT, to bring her home with me. The woman at the sanctuary told me her name was Fudge, she was 17 years old, and she had been in the sanctuary for five years. Sarah and I already had discussed possible names, and I told to-be Amy that Fudge just didn't seem right for a little gray and white lady. She seems okay with that - she responds to Fudge but also to Amy, and for that matter to almost anything that is said in her presence. ("Yoww!") We got to know each other in the car, and now (her second night home) she is sitting on my lap as I type.

The night I brought her home, she weighed 3 lbs 9 oz on the baby scale. :( Amy left for the Rainbow Bridge around 5 pm September 21, 2012. Rest in peace little one. You mattered.
