So last October, my human Uncle Adam got married down at Myrtle Beach. Now I don't like the car, but Mommy decided I had to go, because Flora was going with Mommy and Daddy and they didn't want to leave me home alone, because of my social angst. Flora had to go because she needed to get medicine and Mommy thought it was cheaper to take us than to kennel us. So anyway... They load us into the car for this God-awful 4 hour ride. Mommy was mad the whole way because she had to work later than she'd planned and we were late leaving. Then it got dark and we got lost. The whole way down, I yelled at them. Because I hate the car! Flora kept yelling at me to shut up! What fun.
So we get there and Mommy takes Flora and parades her through the lobby. Apparently Grandma had told them only one cat was coming. So Daddy sneaks me up the back elevator on a cart full of luggage, all furtive. We get into the room and I don't like strangers (and there's no one stranger than grandma), so I go hide behind the chair in the living room. And I discovered this HUGE window that looked out into the sky and the water. Oh yeah, Mommy booked us a room on the second floor but before we got there, GRANDMA decided to move us up higher because she didn't like the room, even though Mommy was paying. Anyway, we were on the 8th floor and I got mesmerized. I spent all night Friday and all day Saturday behind the chair, looking out the window at the seagulls.
Well, late Saturday night, my grandma went to the bathroom and I snuck into their room. Mommy had kept the balcony in our areas closed, but Grandma kept the door open. So I got out. At first I just sat there. Then I went and looked into our room. Then I went exploring. My Mommy doesn't know these details, but she's thankful that the balconies were one big connected balcony with rails separating the rooms. Our room was at one end and I went ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE OTHER END. I can't remember how long I was there, but the sun came up. I was at the edge, just hanging out, with my head and paw through the rails. I finally heard Mommy calling my name, but I couldn't move to go back to her.
Well, eventually, Mommy and Daddy found me. He was so mad! He went through some stranger's room and came out on the balcony to get me. Mommy was just scared and thankful that I didn't fall. She told me she had gone into complete strangers' rooms and searched for me, even when people were rude saying "I hate cats, there's no cat in here." Mommy didn't give up on me.
I like the beach and I hope we go back. But I bet Mommy won't be on the 8th floor ever again. And I bet she won't let me sneak around our suite. Or maybe she'll kennel me. Or find a pet sitter. And not take me.

Mommy keeps trying to say: "For clarification, I would not purposely stay that high up with him again. We also would probably NOT share a room with my parents again. That was a special situation.
This was the scariest moment we've had with him and the whole time we were looking for him, I was sick with worry. This incident is the reason he has 8 of 9 lives. He totally used one that morning. I know we got VERY lucky that he did not fall off that balcony."
For clarification, I was never in danger of falling. I have better balance and grace than THAT.
Gosh, it sounds like a pretty interesting experience, I think I'll chose to stay home next time(giggles) but you sure did have a great view of the birds!!
Oh those birds were awesome! It was quite the adventure. Flora called me stupid afterward, but I think she was just jealous.
