Mom's morning volunteering at the Humane Society

Mom enjoyed group-volunteering at the Humane Society last Thursday. She's been there before with Dad. The facility is so nice and the cat and dog habitats are very cozy with glass doors and windows. This Humane Society is five acres. It has an indoor doggie daycare, outdoor dog park, cafe, pet store, grooming, conference rooms, medical staff, and even rabbits.

Mom chose to work with the cats, so they spent the morning cleaning out the cat habitats. Most habitats have one cat per room, with a few that had two cats. They have cat trees, color coordinated bedding, food and water bowls, litter box, and toys. There were a few kittens but mostly adult cats.

Seeing the nice habitats didn't make Mom feel so bad, however, she had to ask if they housed other cats and ferals elsewhere because while all the habitats are nice, she could not imagine that the number of animals that are there for the public to see are all that they have.

The tour-guide did say that they have the ferals and other animals in another part of the building and that their living quarters are nicer than the old cages that were at the older Humane Society.

They have over 700 volunteers and seems like the animals are treated really well there. They also go to kill-shelters every week to pull animals out of death row.

Mom didn't come home with another cat! Or dog!

How nice of your mom and dad to volunteer at the Humane Society! It sounds like a very nice place for the kitties to find their furever home!

Your folks are so good to do that, mom wouldn't be able to, she would sob and sob. And they already brought the Dood into the house so it's a good thing they came home empty-handed!

Your Humane Society sounds like the one we have where we live...Mom used to volunteer at a place called Friends of Cats, that is were we got Tallulah...it is a nice place and no kill shelter too...

Mom says it gives her a wonderpurr feeling to know that she is helping kitties until they are adopted, but very hard to do...so many cats and Mom wants to bring all of them home...OMC! thank goodness she didn't!

We are proud of your Mom for giving of her time...

That's really nice of your mom! It sounds like a good shelter. My mom also finds it hard seeing kitties with no homes. She made lots of catnip toys at Christmas and brought them to this no-kill shelter, and she got to watch the cats play with the toys. She ended up feeling great, but at the same time really really sad. Especially because there was a young kitten with no eyes- they had been removed because they were so damaged. But the kitten did play with a catnip toy and he hissed when another kitten tried to take it- heehee.
My mom definitely has to do more to help!

yur mom haz mor courage than our mom coz her couldna due that...
the leave with no animals part...
