The mailman came late this afternoon and dropped off some packages on our front porch. Mom brought them inside the house and decided to go in the computer room, which is next to the front porch, to start concentrating on making some Fourth of July pages for us. Huey played really hard today at the dog park so he was crashed on the floor next to her. Riley was sleeping in one of the beds in the computer room. Dad worked today and wasn't home yet.
When Mom finished making our pages, probably an hour later, she walked out of the room and was shocked to see me running into the house from outside! Yep, after the mailman left, she didn't lock the front door properly so it quietly blew open a little.
So then Mom hurries outside and doesn't see any of us out there and then starts going around the house counting cats! Then she started opening cans of food to feed us and that brought all of us out. We were all there!
We have a video camera for the front porch and it's set to send email alerts, so when Mom went and checked her email, there were at least a dozen video clips and she knew they were all going to be of us!
OMC....there were clips of me, Pixie, Nike, and Sofie! We went in and out several times checking things out around the porch and Mom could see that we stepped off the porch but doesn't believe we went much further than that!
Dad just got home and was shocked to hear the story. He was too busy at work to check his email alerts for the video camera.
I guess Riley, Reebok, Joy, Enzo, and Melody missed out on the adventure, but Mom and Dad are just happy we're all home!

I just added a picture of me in our new dog bed!
We got a coupon in the mail from Petco for 50% off a dog bed, so right away Mom said she was going to use it to get us a new bed. She put it on the desk in our mini-office upstairs, and I was the first cat to check it out. I started out by smelling it and then started kneading on it.
Thanks to Huey for being too big to fit in it!
I be lounging......

Orvis McSpeedo woke me up to tell me I'm Cat of the Day, and yes, Violet O'Whiner, I sure feel lucky! I'm so excited that I think a couple of new freckles showed up on my nose!
Thank you to everycat for congratulating me today! Your gifts of friendship are much appreciated.
Mom has the day off to do some cleaning and stuff, as grandma will be visiting next weekend, starting on Friday. Funny how that motivates her to clean more but some of our stuff is getting moved around and when that happens we get excited because it makes things seem brand new.
I'm sure grandma will be happy when we check her out and add cat hair to her wardrobe. We'll have to tell you about her visit afterwards, as it's been awhile since she's been here. Wait until she meets the Dood!
Zack and Zoey brought creamsicles for all of us! Enjoy!

Thanks so much to my friends for honoring my Gotcha Day today! You made it extra fun for me while thinking about the day I came to my forever home.
When I first came to my forever home, I was very happy when Mom or Dad talked to me, but I had to hiss at the other cats, which were Mercy, Milo, Sofie, and Riley, at the time. I think they were afraid of me but it didn't take long before I approved of them. MOL
Time sure flies when you're having fun!

Mom was "counting cats" this morning before she left for work. Dad was still sleeping since he works swing shift. Because Mom is getting older every day, she usually counts cats starting with the oldest cat to the youngest cat! MOL
I could not be found. Mom says I was in bed with her last night. That "was" last night wasn't it? Earlier this morning she cleaned some of my eye boogers. Or was that yesterday morning? She didn't remember seeing me show up for breakfast either, or did she? But, we don't all always show up for breakfast at the same time.
Mom looked everywhere, up and down, in closets, under furniture, in cat trees, behind curtains, outside, and couldn't find me. But I was right there, right there, right there! Huey was following her back and forth, up and down the stairs, in and out of every room he's allowed in.
It was getting where Mom was going to be late for work and had to be there early to take care of a couple of important things right away, so she left, even though I really am more important!
Mom called Dad as soon as she could to have him look for me, so he got up and went to the office. It took him a couple of minutes to focus and realize I was behind him all curled up on top of the cat condo. Mom says I wasn't there when she looked.
I wasn't lost. If anything was lost it was my Mom's mind!
We're good at hiding, aren't we?

Mom had to cat-sit my cousins Fa Fa and Bee Bee this past week. I have their badges on my page but they don't come on Catster anymore to update their pages.
Mom says they are friendly but she also thinks they remember her even when they don't see her for months. She also noticed Bee Bee (the boy) was wearing a pink collar with a bell but Fa Fa (the girl) didn't have a collar on. I wonder if he borrows her jewelry all the time?
When Mom told their Dad today that she found their treats in the cupboard, he said that they normally have to work for their treats by doing tricks or something like that. Tricks? Mom would toss the treats across the floor just as she was going out the front door so they would have to go after them. It made her feel better to see that they were away from the front door. I don't think they should have to do tricks especially while their parents are away on vacation. That's the kind of stuff you make dogs do!
We smelled them on Mom every time she came home from seeing them. They smell like cats.

I'm a little embarassed to be a diary pick today because we haven't been doing a good job of keeping up with our friends when they're diary picks, but I'm always happy to hear from you and thank you for stopping by to leave me gifts, comments and pawmails!
The building where Mom works is located up in the hills. She's seen deer around but the other day when she was driving down the hill and stopped at a stop sign, she noticed what she thought was a kitty cat. The kitty cat stopped on a hiking trail and looked at her. That's when she realized it was a bobcat! It was the first time she'd ever seen one and we're glad she didn't bring it home!
Have a nice long weekend, friends!

Thank you all for your wonderful gifts and messages for my birthday today! You're all such pawsome cats!
Catster remembered it was my birthday, my friends remembered it was my birthday, but it seems my own family forgot!
What do you think the punishment should be?

Yesterday morning Mom came downstairs and stopped dead in her tracks because Reebok and I were sitting quietly at the patio door having a staring contest with that orange and white cat that was sleeping on our front porch back in February. As soon as he saw Mom he ran away and climbed up a tree to the fence. That part of the yard really isn't protected very well by our cat fence-in system.
We hardly get to go outside anymore, especially when Huey is outside because he likes to corral us back inside right away. I sure miss rolling around on the patio when the sun is out.
I also went to see the vet yesterday for a checkup and she says I need dental work and gave us a quote. They are too expensive for dental work, especially when extractions are involved. Ask Riley, he'll tell you!
I've been eating fine and I weigh 11lbs, the same as last year. They took some of my blood for testing and my bladder wasn't full enough for a urine sample so I have to go back for that and also give them a stool sample. HA! They said we could bring any sample since it'd be hard to identify which is mine unless I'm caught in the act.
While Mom was waiting to pay the bill she ran into Diane, the rescuer from the place where Sofie, Riley and I came from. She was actually the one that rescued Sofie and her two siblings.
Anyway, Mom was complaining about dental costs and Diane totally agreed they charged too much even though she really likes the vets alot and always brings her rescues there. She whispered to Mom about the place where she takes her cats in for dental work so that is where I'm going to get examined to see what they say and compare costs.
Diane had a teeny, five-week old kitten in a carrier. Mom said she was so tiny and so cute! Diane was also saying she wanted to cut back on rescuing but every time she goes and pulls cats from the shelters more are coming in, so it's hard to turn her back on them. I know I am grateful to have been rescued.

Mom enjoyed group-volunteering at the Humane Society last Thursday. She's been there before with Dad. The facility is so nice and the cat and dog habitats are very cozy with glass doors and windows. This Humane Society is five acres. It has an indoor doggie daycare, outdoor dog park, cafe, pet store, grooming, conference rooms, medical staff, and even rabbits.
Mom chose to work with the cats, so they spent the morning cleaning out the cat habitats. Most habitats have one cat per room, with a few that had two cats. They have cat trees, color coordinated bedding, food and water bowls, litter box, and toys. There were a few kittens but mostly adult cats.
Seeing the nice habitats didn't make Mom feel so bad, however, she had to ask if they housed other cats and ferals elsewhere because while all the habitats are nice, she could not imagine that the number of animals that are there for the public to see are all that they have.
The tour-guide did say that they have the ferals and other animals in another part of the building and that their living quarters are nicer than the old cages that were at the older Humane Society.
They have over 700 volunteers and seems like the animals are treated really well there. They also go to kill-shelters every week to pull animals out of death row.
Mom didn't come home with another cat! Or dog!
