Arrival Story: I first adopted a cream smoke kitten from a local shelter that I grew to love very much. She contracted some sort of respiratory virus at the shelter was only was with me for a week. I was devastated and missed her greatly. I grew to accept that she didn't make it because she was too young and too weak due to the circumstances of her short life. To make myself less miserable I decided to adopt another kitten. Thus, I found Penelope who was only at the shelter for a day with her mother and siblings. Hoping she didn't contract anything yet I wanted to take her home right away. Luckily, the adoption coordinator was sympathetic and knew first hand how many young kittens died at the shelter due to disease so I go to take her home. Penelope is doing great and got a "great" on her health appraisal from the vet!
Bio: SOO SADDD. She passed today at the vet due to suspected Panleukopenia. It was so sudden and unbelievable. She seemed so healthy and then began vomiting and soon stopped eating and then went downhill. I know people advocate adopting from shelters but this is 2 out of 2 of the kittens dying within 2 weeks from infectious disease likely from the shelter despite intensive vet intervention. I am so emotionally spent and depressed right now =(.
