Arrival Story:
New Year's Eve 2000 was very very cold. We heard a cat meowing outside the sliding door to our deck, and we knew our neighbors had an indoor/outdoor cat who was a tiger cat, so I went to see them and ask if their cat was out. The gentleman of the house came with me and we spent fifteen minutes or so catching the cat, only to find out that it wasn't theirs. He was the skinniest cat I had ever seen, fwlt like his bones ought to poke right out through his skin, but he purred at being held. I brough him in and put him in the upstairs bathroom with a litter box, a bowl of water, and a dish of food. In the coming days, we called every local animal rescue and animal welfare and even veterinarian in the area, but no one had lost him. We had been thinking of taking him to a shelter, but then my husband, who was the chief proponent of taking him (We already have three cats!) gave him a name, and so here he is still.

Bio:
Roshi was intitially a bit standoffish, but amazingly patient with our son, who was only a month old when Roshi joined our household, and who has developmental delays. After our son had cardiac surgery and acquired trhe energy to cry, every time he cried, Roshi came from whatever part of the house he had been in to glare at me until I took care of whatever the problem was. Two years or so ago, he came down with penumonia and we were sure we were going to lose him, but a round of antibiotics took care of it entirely, and ever since he got well he has been an incredibly friendly cat as well, especially to me, the Giver of Velveeta (wrapping his meds in Velveeta was the only way to get him to take them). We don't actually know his age, but fifteen is the vet's best guess based on the fact that he has almost no teeth. He's a great cat, and we all love him. Roshi is no longer with us. He had cancer in his left ear and had wasted away no next to nothing. The vet said there was nothing more we could do for him, so today (2 Aug 2007) we said goodbye to him and stroked him until the vet said he was gone.
