Hi everyone! Kara's Mom here again! I can't believe it's been so long since we've updated! Me and Kara wanted to fix that, so here we are again! It's been a rough year, but things are finally looking up! I was in and out of the hospital again several times, but it was always Nurse Kara to the rescue with cuddles and head bonks, to help me feel better in no time! Kara is doing great. She has really settled into the house, and is totally at home here now. I try to take her on walks now on her harness and leash out in the yard. She is getting braver and braver and will now go to the tree in the side yard and away from the driveway a bit to explore. Noises scare her and she will run back to the carport though if she hears something she doesn't like. She's still pretty shy when we are out there. But that's ok. She is due for her annual exam at the vets, so we will try to get her in soon. She seems healthy, but it's good to get her checked out every year, just in case. She is also due for an annual vaccine, so we'll get that too. So that will be coming up very soon, as soon as we get the chance to make the appointment. I think she is getting a little pudgy, so the vet might lecture us about her weight. I try not to give her too may treats, but we may end up having to start measuring her food instead of letting her graze freely. Which she will hate if we have to start doing that. She's used to just eating when she wants. Which might be part of the problem. Poor kitty. She is still a very active cat, and does get good exercise, which helps. And she's still my love bug, and loves her daily cuddles, with both me and her Daddy. She's such a sweet girl. Now if I can just keep myself out of the hospital for loner periods of time so I can stay home with her, we'll be doing good.

Hi, Kara's Mom here again! It's been quite busy around here since last month! I've spent quite a bit of time away from home (boo!) here lately. I've so far had a total of 4 trips to the hospital so far this year with my health issues, and that's not good. We believe there is something here in the apartment, that we just aren't seeing, that is affecting my breathing and causing problems. We wanted to move anyway, this just seals the deal. In an attempt to prevent yet ANOTHER hospital trip, I tried staying out at my parents house for just over a week (from a Friday to the NEXT Saturday) to see if getting out of the place for a while would allow my breathing to stabilize enough to avoid the hospital. It didn't work. So I returned home that Saturday afternoon to a VERY happy Kara kitty! We missed each other SO much! I was greeted with lots of meows and purrs and excitement, and got lots of cuddles that night as we slept. By Wednesday I was off to the hospital, leaving behind a VERY disappointed Kara. "But you JUST got home Mom! DO you HAVE to go so soon!?" She begged and pleaded with meows and cried as I carried my bags out the door, and I said my goodbyes and off I went. It has been another week, now Wednesday again, and I have returned home. Over the last few weeks we have accumulated countless boxes to pack things in, much to Kara's enjoyment! She carefully inspects EACH one as it is brought inside, and gives it her seal of approval. We have found a 3 bedroom house that we are moving into soon. Our apartment lease expires at the end of this month, so we have until then to be out anyway. The sooner the better for my health though. I think Kara will enjoy the new place, once she gets used to the layout. MORE SPACE! From a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house - I think she'll adapt well! We will also use the spare room to place her litterbox in. For the moment it is in our bedroom, and she scares me to death when she goes potty while I'm sleeping and the sound of her scratching wakes me up.... hahaha. She's just so LOUD about it! I think she has to let EVERYONE know that she is using the box! We still haven;t had the funds (with me being so sick and with working on moving expenses) to get her ears checked at the vet, but it's still on our to-do-asap list! My Mom is coming out on Monday to help me pack some thing away into boxes. I really think Kara will like our new home. It's near the end of a quiet, dead-end street. There will be more oppertunities for me to take her out on her harness and leash for her to play outside! And best part - no stairs, so I can do it more often! (The apartment is on the second floor - and I have trouble with stairs with my health, so I don't get to take her outside as often as I would like...)
I'll update more when I can! Time to relax and get some furry cuddles!

Kara's Mom here. Today Kara was greatly spoiled. I went to the pet store and bought her some new toys. I got her the Toys R' Us Pets brand of the tri-tunnel for her to play in. She loves it! She has played and sat in it off and on all afternoon/evening (until it was time to go nap). I also got her a new pink blanket to lay by her cat tree where she likes to nap. She has been laying on one of mine, so I decided to get her her own, so I could put mine away. It's the same soft material as the one she's been using, so I'm sure she'll love it. I have also been trying to introduce some wet food into her diet. I want to get more moisture into her diet, to help her skin and coat stay healthy. I tried wet food before, but she would refuse to eat it, no matter the flavor. I think she just didn't like the brand I had (Friskies). I've tried some other brands, and she seems to love them. So far I think the Iams wet food is her favorite. I buy her the Iams dry food, so I thought I'd give the wet food a try. I've also tried a can of Meow Mix and some Fancy Feast Mornings. But I still think she went after the Iams with the most enthusiasm. So I will likely stick with that brand. She will start getting one can of wet food a day, with dry food left out for her to snack on when she's hungry otherwise. I also have been adding some Omega 3's to her dry food when she eats. I bought some wild alaskan salmon oil made for pets from Amazon (I shop a lot on Amazon.com) and she loves the taste of it, and it seems to be helping her skin and coat. At her last vet visit (a routine check-up and annual shots) I discussed with her vet about Kara's dandruff issues. It's not too severe, but enough to notice when I scratch and pet her. So far it seems to be helping. I also bought from Amazon a shampoo and conditioner made just for cats. It's a tearless formula, and it seemed to get her nice and clean and get her coat looking nice after her bath. I've only used it once so far, but I really like it. The brand is called Le Salon. It's the "Soothe" shampoo that has colloidal oatmeal in it to help with dry, itchy skin. And I have the "Moisture Renew" conditioner with shea butter to help moisturize. The shampoo is also fragrance free, which I'm sure makes Kara happier. She is needing to go back to the vet again, so as soon as we have the money, we are making an appointment. She is having trouble with her ears again. She had to get ear drops once after I first got her, and I think she needs them again. She scratches at her ears a lot, and when she scratches her left one sometimes, it makes her cry. So I wonder if she has eat mites again somehow, or if something else is going on. So we will take her soon to have her ears checked out.
That's all the updates for now.
