Kara's Journey

Happy Kitty

Hello everyone! Kara's mom here again. Kara has been a very happy kitty this past year since out last update. She's been right at home in our house. We are going to buy this house, so no more moving for Kara! She's very happy here, so that's a good thing. We got her window perch set up in one of the windows. Hopefully she'll start using it soon. Once she realizes it's there anyway. She used to use it at our old apartment. We just never got around to putting it up once we moved. We finally got it in a window for her to look out and be comfy. I still take her out on her harness and leash sometimes, when its a nice day out and the neighborhood is quiet. We have some new neighbors with dogs, so I take her out when the dogs aren't barking because the barking scares her. But they are quiet dogs so they don't bark a lot and they don't roam, they stay in their yard or house, so there is no danger of them coming over here and bothering Kara when I take her out. Our neighbors are nice. Kara has been a great nurse this past year. I was put on oxygen in December 2015 for my lung problems and I had to use it until August 2016. I wasn't able to go out much because I had to take an oxygen tank everywhere I went. So I spent a lot of time at home cuddling with Kara. She was so sweet to me. She's such a good kitty. She wakes me up every morning with head bonks and then I'll start petting her and she will purr so loud. Then we will have morning cuddle time before I get out of bed. I'm happy to be off the oxygen now, so I can go out more, but I still spend a lot of time with Kara. She's my angel. Today I went to Target to look at the Halloween stuff and I bought her some catnip pumpkins they had in the cat toy section. I figured she needed some new Halloween toys. And in the afternoons after her Daddy gets home from work he will lay across the bed and she will lay on his chest and give him kisses. It's so adorable. She is such a happy kitty. I just love her so much. We have a mouse in the house that she has been hunting. She can't get to it because it stays behind everything, but she will sit and stare at the stove, the refrigerator, the washing machine and the dryer and just watch sometimes. I know she smells it. I have only seen it once and it went behind the dryer and disappeared. I don't think she will ever catch it, and I'm afraid to put out traps because I wouldn't want her to get into them. But she looks for it.

That's all that's going on for now. She's my baby girl and I love her. Hopefully I'll update again soon.

It's been so long! Update!

Hi everyone! Kara's Mom here again! I can't believe it's been so long since we've updated! Me and Kara wanted to fix that, so here we are again! It's been a rough year, but things are finally looking up! I was in and out of the hospital again several times, but it was always Nurse Kara to the rescue with cuddles and head bonks, to help me feel better in no time! Kara is doing great. She has really settled into the house, and is totally at home here now. I try to take her on walks now on her harness and leash out in the yard. She is getting braver and braver and will now go to the tree in the side yard and away from the driveway a bit to explore. Noises scare her and she will run back to the carport though if she hears something she doesn't like. She's still pretty shy when we are out there. But that's ok. She is due for her annual exam at the vets, so we will try to get her in soon. She seems healthy, but it's good to get her checked out every year, just in case. She is also due for an annual vaccine, so we'll get that too. So that will be coming up very soon, as soon as we get the chance to make the appointment. I think she is getting a little pudgy, so the vet might lecture us about her weight. I try not to give her too may treats, but we may end up having to start measuring her food instead of letting her graze freely. Which she will hate if we have to start doing that. She's used to just eating when she wants. Which might be part of the problem. Poor kitty. She is still a very active cat, and does get good exercise, which helps. And she's still my love bug, and loves her daily cuddles, with both me and her Daddy. She's such a sweet girl. Now if I can just keep myself out of the hospital for loner periods of time so I can stay home with her, we'll be doing good.

Gone Away, Returning, Gone Again, Boxes Galore......

Hi, Kara's Mom here again! It's been quite busy around here since last month! I've spent quite a bit of time away from home (boo!) here lately. I've so far had a total of 4 trips to the hospital so far this year with my health issues, and that's not good. We believe there is something here in the apartment, that we just aren't seeing, that is affecting my breathing and causing problems. We wanted to move anyway, this just seals the deal. In an attempt to prevent yet ANOTHER hospital trip, I tried staying out at my parents house for just over a week (from a Friday to the NEXT Saturday) to see if getting out of the place for a while would allow my breathing to stabilize enough to avoid the hospital. It didn't work. So I returned home that Saturday afternoon to a VERY happy Kara kitty! We missed each other SO much! I was greeted with lots of meows and purrs and excitement, and got lots of cuddles that night as we slept. By Wednesday I was off to the hospital, leaving behind a VERY disappointed Kara. "But you JUST got home Mom! DO you HAVE to go so soon!?" She begged and pleaded with meows and cried as I carried my bags out the door, and I said my goodbyes and off I went. It has been another week, now Wednesday again, and I have returned home. Over the last few weeks we have accumulated countless boxes to pack things in, much to Kara's enjoyment! She carefully inspects EACH one as it is brought inside, and gives it her seal of approval. We have found a 3 bedroom house that we are moving into soon. Our apartment lease expires at the end of this month, so we have until then to be out anyway. The sooner the better for my health though. I think Kara will enjoy the new place, once she gets used to the layout. MORE SPACE! From a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house - I think she'll adapt well! We will also use the spare room to place her litterbox in. For the moment it is in our bedroom, and she scares me to death when she goes potty while I'm sleeping and the sound of her scratching wakes me up.... hahaha. She's just so LOUD about it! I think she has to let EVERYONE know that she is using the box! We still haven;t had the funds (with me being so sick and with working on moving expenses) to get her ears checked at the vet, but it's still on our to-do-asap list! My Mom is coming out on Monday to help me pack some thing away into boxes. I really think Kara will like our new home. It's near the end of a quiet, dead-end street. There will be more oppertunities for me to take her out on her harness and leash for her to play outside! And best part - no stairs, so I can do it more often! (The apartment is on the second floor - and I have trouble with stairs with my health, so I don't get to take her outside as often as I would like...)

I'll update more when I can! Time to relax and get some furry cuddles!
