Arrival Story:
My daughter's beloved cat, Silver, who had bene with us since he was born and she was four, got out and had a fatal accident. After a few weeks, we decided we needed to find another cat. Someone on a local mailing list I was on posted needing a home for a cat, so my daughter and I went out to meet her at the halfway hosue she worked at. Seems a woman who was living on her own but with assitance had wanted to have a cat, and her worker had thought a cat might be good for her. They got a cat from the local humane society, but it turned out the woman in question wasn't capable of caring for a cat, so Samantha was brough to live in the halfway house's office while they looked for a new owner for her. We took one look at her and fell in love with her, and she has been with us since early 2000.

Bio:
Samantha and Hoover are both extremely non-dominant cats, so when we brought Sammie home, she & Hoover spent a lot of time staring at each other and trying to out-submissive each other. They had achieved a fairly comfortable equilibrium until we brough Tigger into the house. She didn't like the kitten and hissed at him and chased him away every time he got near her. Now he's an adult and the two of them are terrified of each other. Tigger has run of the rest of the house, and Samantha has the downstairs library, and if Tigger ventures in where she can see him or he can see her, we have a cat explosion. It's not a good situation, but I don't know what to do about it. June 2005 edit: Samantha moved back upstairs to our bedroom and the upstairs bathroom some months ago. She's a lot happier and, while she and Tigger still hiss at each other, it's nothing like as bad as it used to be. May 2007 edit: Sammie is still upstairs, but she's a lot happier. She had a bad allergy attack a few months ago, and the medications and change in food dish and cat litter has done a lot for her outlook on life, as well as the fact that she's been to the vet twice this year now and come back safely each time. She also got a lot more attention when she was sick, which didn't hurt either. August 2007 edit: With Roshi's passing, Samantha is now Alpha Cat in the household hierarchy. I am still blinking amazed at this development, but apparently getting her allergies taken care of did worlds for her self-esteem and confidence.
