Arrival Story:
When our last cat had to be put to sleep, we knew from experience that we wouldn't be able to go a night without having a cat in the house. So I went down to the SPCA. My husband wanted a male cat and we wanted a younger cat this time. Watson had the luck to be the second youngest male cat (just over a year). But that's not what got me. When I picked him up, he rolled over in my arms and started purring at me.
He bonded to me instantly. I think he may be part Turkish Van, given his coloring and his personality. He doesn't swim at this point, but I have hope! It took him a bit longer to accept Tony, but he's really come a long way in the two months we've had him. He's a ridiculously mushy cat and very talkative. And HUGE. He's 19 inches long, not including tail, and 13 inches high at his shoulder. His paws are gigantic.
His coloring is one of the things that attracted me first, being a fan of gingers. And I've always thought white cats to be very pretty. His fur, the orange part, even matches the husband's hair exactly.
And, for the record, I must state that Tony and I are longtime Sherlock Holmes fans, long before the BBC's Sherlock. For me, it goes back to reading Doyle's work in high school and college. For him, it probably does too, though we are both huge fans of the Jeremy Brett series. Not that I don't love Sherlock. I just felt the need to state this, since Sherlock's so popular now.
And, in that vein, when we get a larger place, Tony wants to adopt a black kitten and name it Moriarty. Good unisex name, Moriarty.
