I have been tagged fur this kewl game by my furiend Dashy. I must answer these questions and then tag five of my friends to play too. So...

1. Describe one thing your pet pawrent does that you think is REALLY CUTE.
Hm... I like it when Meowmy lets me curl up on her lap and she scritches behind my ears and rubs my belly, if I let her reach it.

2. Describe one thing your pet pawrent does that you think is REALLY LAME.
What?? Just ONE thing?!? I hate the way Meowmy tries to dress me up and take pictures of me. (Christmas hats are itchy.)

I am tagging these friends:
rookie detective Indy (Catster #242020)
the gorgeous Reanan (Catster #675562)
Mietzi Katze with the kewl name ;) (Catster #937054)
Marley the doggie dandy (Dogster #927634)
and Zander the... dog (Dogster #1155291) ;)

Have fun, my furiends! Hope everyfur had a great Easter and is having a great week!

Meowmy's off to see the world! Or, at least Adelaide. ;) She's going from where we live in Bendigo, Victoria, to Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, and she's taking pictures fur us!

Go check out my blog at www.TheJollyOutback.blogspot.com to see the latest pics and read what she's been seeing. There is some interesting info about the gold mining in Victoria and even the discovery of El Dorado in South America.

I'll be updating as often as Meowmy will let me. ;) Let me know what you think in the comments on the blog. Hope to see you there!

Christmas and New Year's are ofur already, and Australia Day has come and gone! I have nothing left to celebrate. *sigh* Well, I went and updated my blog. That's good. And we are safe furom the fires that have been rampaging around Australia - that's good as well. And Meowmy's finally getting into this next music vid, so that's really good.

Fur those who don't know, I have started a blog called - pawlease don't laugh - "The Jolly Outback". (Okay, maybe you can chuckle a LITTLE!) ;) That's www.TheJollyOutback.blogspot.com.au - pawlease check it out if you haven't done so already (or even if you have - I love to get comments!)

Just fur fun, I have also given some of you a link to the national Lambnesia quiz. That's at www.Lambnesia.com.au and youjust look at the pictures and decide whether that picture is Australian or UnAustralian. You get a score at the end to tell how Australian you are. (Meowmy is 48% UnAustralian) I would love to find out how Australian you all are. :)

Our weather here leaves a lot to be desired. It is hot and muggy most of the time. It's too hot to cook that much so there's a lot of roasts in the slow cooker or pre-roasted chicken from Woolies supermarket. They're predicting 30 degree temperatures fur this week.

Hope you're all having a great weekend! Meowmy's hoping to get a lot more photos fur my blog and of course do some more work on the music vid. She's also thinking she'll have to take pics of some Aussie recipes she makes here in our corner of the Jolly Outback... :))

Keep warm this winter, to my American buddies, and make sure to chill out to my Aussie mates!

Purrs,

Sammo

I decided to share some of my outback home with you poor Americans huddled in front of your firepawlaces waiting fur winter to end. (Admittedly, right now that's looking better than the weather here, but you didn't hear that furom me, alright?^) My solution - (besides the obvious answer of my Catster Diary) I decided to start a blog like some of my furiends have. On there, Meowmy and I will have lots of fun sharing pictures of our lovely weather and the flora and fauna (we might even find a Kangarooster fur you!) and Goldie has agreed to share pictures taken on her walks, infrequent though those are. Here is a link to my brand-new blog:

http://thejollyoutback.blogspot.com.au/

I'm still getting it set up, but you're welcome to stop by, read my latest adventures and peruse Meowmy's pictures, and maybe drop me a line in the comments box to let me know what you think. :D

Hope you all had a furtastic Chrissymas and are looking furward to the New Years!

Purrs,
Samson

It's CHRISSYMAS!!!

*does Happy Dance* Meowmy says she doesn't like Christmas because there's a lot of hustle and bustle and noise and lots of stuff Meowmy doesn't like, but I like this Christmas because I got FANCY FEAST! Meowmy got a tin of FF just fur me! She also got a tin fur Yogi and Booboo (most of you know who they are), and she got a packet of Schmackos fur Mikey and Goldie. Fur the non-Aussies, Schmackos are dog treats that dogs love. Both dogs love it. :D

Dogs Go Wacko for Schmackos!

Knowing how much Meowmy likes cats, somebody got her a board game of Monopoly, only it's a cat fursion - it's called "Cat-Opoly". Kewl, huh? Meowmy was actually looking at it on an online shop thinking she'd like that, but she didn't say anything to anyone, yet they knew she'd like it! She's pawlayed it already with some furiends and won the first game. :D

How was your Christmasses, my furiends? What did your pawrents do? Did you get anything? All Meowmy's been doing much is sitting near the A/C. It's so hot here!

Anyways, Meowmy doesn't have much time right now, so furom the whole furmily, we wish you a very Mewwy Christmas and a Yappy New Year!

Start Your Day the Aussie Way!

G'day my good, long-suffering pals!

First, thank you all fur celebrating my DDP today and DOTD a few days ago. It's really great to have furiends to make things that little bit more special. :D

Now, Some furs have asked me about some Aussie slang terms I sometimes use without really realising. So, pawtly because of that and pawtly because I find the subject fun and interesting, I thought I'd put together a guide fur you on How to Be Aussie. Here goes...

First, you need an Aussie name. Any name will do really, but to make it sound Aussie, you should abbreviate the snot out of it. Barry becomes Bazza, Baz, Baz-Baz, "The Bazster". Sharon is Shazza or Shaz. Sheila is a good Aussie name, as it is also slang fur a girl or woman. You can also put an O on the end of most words and names - just ask any Thommo, Dicko, or Harry. :)

To enhance the authenticity of their Aussie purrfurmance, your human should wear a singlet (sleeveless top), shorts, and thongs (flip-flops) or volleyball shoes. Fafurite Aussie foods include rissoles, sausage rolls, meat pies, snaggers (sausages) and good old Vegemite. :D

And then we get to the small matter of talking like an Aussie. I suggest you see the YouTube video I posted in my last diary entry with the smorgasbord of Aussie slang. Just rememfur a few things: *You can add an O to the end of most words. ("Good-o", "Right-o", and of course "Cheerio" [meaning "goodbye"]) *End sentences frequently with the word "but". A British purrson once observed that they can tell the difference between Aussie and Kiwi accents (which, incidentally, sound nothing alike to an Aussie or a New Zealander!) because Aussies tend to end sentences with the word but. We don't do it intentionally, but. I nefur noticed how often Meowmy does it until I heard that, but. It's not really that annoying but. Is it? :D

Make sure you pronounce your words right. Say after me: or-e-GARN-o (NOT "o-REG-a-no"), and al-yoo-MIN-ee-um (NOT "al-OO-min-um"). Do a YouTube search on Aussie accents. There are a few good videos fur that.

When Aussies say they are "pissed", they mean they are drunk, not mad. Thongs are flip-flop sandals, and a jumper is a warm sweater, not a sleeveless dress. Mozzies are those annoying little insects called mosquitoes and they are killed by handy little plug-in diffusers called "mozzie zappers". If someone invites you fur a barbie, you're likely to be having snaggers (or bangers - named thus fur fairly obvious reasons!). And if someone offers you a chokkie or a bikkie (or better yet, a chokkie bikkie), say yes! And make sure you brush your ivories (or pearly-whites) well after drinking Lollywater (better known as soft drink!).

Blimey, I hope you're not too nackered after that long list I gave you! I can do more entries with more Aussie slang and facts, as I find linguistic subjects fascinating, especially as regards slang and cultural differences. Tell me, do you have interesting slang terms where you live? When you go to the beach, do you wear bathers or swimsuits? Do you eat morning tea or Elevenses? Give me a bell to let me know! Beauty, mate!

Purrs,
Your Ripper Aussie Mate,
Sammo :D (See, I got an Aussie name!)

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas...

I know how most of you liked Meowmy's Aussie variations of the Christmas carols, so I thought I'd post a link to another really funny Aussie Christmas Song.

Aussie Jingle Bells with Colin Buchanan (Bucko) and Greg Champion (Champs)

And while we're at it, you might enjoy this video:

Aussie Slang

And I'll supply you with another of Meowmy's adaptations:

***

Jingle Bikes
(adapted from Jingle Bells)

Jingle Bikes! Jingle Bikes!
Jingles on the wheels!
We’ll go riding far and near
Through all the open fields! HEY!
Jingle Bikes! Jingle Bikes!
Jingles through the night!
Oh what fun to ride and sing
On a one-bell mountain bike!

Dashing through the grass
On a bell-clad mountain bike.
There’s the fence at last!
Thought we’d be out all night!
Bells on bike wheels ring,
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing
On a one-bell mountain bike! OH!

Jingle Bikes! Jingle Bikes!
Jingles on the wheels!
We’ll go riding far and near
Through all the open fields! HEY!
Jingle Bikes! Jingle Bikes!
Jingles through the night!
Oh what fun to ride and sing
On a one-bell mountain bike!

Anyways, how's the weather like with the rest of you? Our weather has cooled considerably, although that might just be the cold Meowmy has. (in summer!) Meowmy's started doing some Christmas shopping, but fur the most pawt, she's keeping to the tradition of leaving prezzie-shopping till the last minute. :D

Hope you all have a great week, and until next time...
We Wish You a Ripper Christmas!
(Don't you just love these songs? So Aussie!)

Purrs,
Your Aussie Mate,
Sammo (I'll explain later!)

Meowza! I'm so honoured!

I'm DIARY OF THE DAY today!! Wow, I'm so proud I could bust!! I've been DDP 3 times, but now I'm the Diary of the Day! How KEWL is that?!! Thank you to all my wonderfur furiends who helped me celebrate this special day!!

Since you all liked Meowmy's "Hot Christmas" song, here's another adaptation she did. It's an Aussie version of "The Night Before Christmas". It may make this entry a little long, but here goes:

***

‘Twas the night before Christmas with all fast asleep
And the schoolwork piled up on the desks for next week.
The rooms were all messy with toys everywhere
And the couch seemed to be made out of cat and dog hair.

The kids were sprawled out on their beds near the fan,
With cool summer clothes on their bodies burnt tan.
The windows were open and the breezes blew in,
So we heard the owl’s hoots and the frogs’ noisy din.

When suddenly, outside, the dog rose to bark
So I got up to quiet him out there in the dark.
I tripped to the door and fell over something
Then I heard, in a daze, the front door-bell ring.

I stumbled downstairs and flung open the door
And I heard the ‘cough-splut’ of a motor-bike roar.
Its rider was fat with black twinkling eyes.
He looked at me and who he was I realised.

He got off the bike and he un-strapped his sack
Then he marched right inside without looking back.
“Took a while tryin’ to get here,” I heard him complain.
“Since when does Australia have such Summer rain?”

“You talk of the heat? I feel numb in my toes!
And everything’s on the wrong side of the roads!”
He worked while he talked, to my great relief,
And he even reached up to straighten our wreath.

He looked at the tree, which would never stand straight,
Which we’d nailed to the wall for pure safety’s sake.
He went to the stockings, all hung on the wall,
And filled them with presents, both big ones and small.

He looked at the milk, curdled from all the heat,
And the biscuits which looked not a bit good to eat.
He sighed and he rubbed his big lump of fat,
Then he turned around quickly and tripped on the cat.

He went to the pantry, found a sticky date pudd,
he scarfed it then went back to look for more food.
He found not a crumb so, heaving a sigh,
He picked up his sack and he bid me good-bye.

He got on his bike, which he revved with a roar,
Then he drove out of sight and I saw him no more.
I went back to bed in a kind of day-dream
And found part of the window that looked kind of clean.

I looked at the stars above in the sky
And I thought that I heard a loud voice yell nearby.
“Happy Christmas and… WOOOAAAHH!” St Nicholas cried
Then there came a loud crash and his motor-bike died.

***

How's that one? Meowmy's been told it's really funny. She just likes writing poems, even silly little ones.

Our weather here is furry hot, but thankfully we haven't had any more storms yet. Sometimes, when it gets REALLY hot, Meowmy takes pity on the dogs and lets them inside fur a while. Really, I mean this is MY house!!

Hope you all have a great weekend and don't break too many Christmas decorations! :D

Purrs,
Samson T.

Christmas is coming!!

November 27th 2012 6:37 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 9 people already have ]

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Everywhere I go!
With the wreath up upon the door
And the tree falling on the floor,
And it’s so hot!!

Furgive me if I got the tune wrong, but that’s a poetic version of my sentiments. We’ve got the Christmas decorations up everywhere and we got a new tree and kept the old one as well, so now we’ve got TWO trees! It’s fun to sit on the table underneath one of the trees and pawlay with the ornaments. Meowmy’s pawlanning Christmas purresents to get fur everyone and I even heard her mention getting some Fancy Feast fur us fur Christmas. :D We don’t get a lot of wet food.

On the down side of things, we had the first summer thunderstorm come through yesterday. I’m not usually scared of thunder, but this one was LOUD and SCARY!! Meowmy had to drag me out furom under the car; I was so scared I just sat stiffly in her arms as she carried me inside. I now officially do NOT like thunder!!

I’ve told you befur that Meowmy was working on a music video of me and my furiends. Well, she finished it, but she has NOT been able to get Catster to upload it propurrly. It says it’s loaded 100%, then it has that darned “an error occurred” message. Grrr! Meowmy’s decided she’ll try uploading the video to Photobucket then posting it on my page as a HTML code. That might work.

In the meantime, I have to endure endless Christmas CD’s and Meowmy’s singing. She says it’s not really that bad, but I beg to differ. That is why I spend so much time outside. Meowmy just does NOT understand why I don’t like her singing?? Often I can hear “Jingle Bells” blaring out of the CD pawlayer in the living room, “Felize Navidad” on the computer, and Meowmy singing “Adeste Fidelis” in the bedroom! :-0 But as well as singing songs, Meowmy also likes to re-write the. She’s adapted a lot of Christmas carols and silly songs ofur time. Here’s one she adapted furom White Christmas. It’s her Aussie version she calls “Hot Christmas”. Quite appropriately!

I’m dreaming of a hot Christmas
Just like the ones we always knew!
With the rain clouds dying
And us all frying.
With melted ice-cream for me and you.
I’m dreaming of a sunny Christmas
With not a stormy cloud in view!
And the days all sunny and hot
(Just the Christmas weather we always got)!
*interlude*
(last verse: ) I’m dreaming of a sunny Christmas
Just like the ones that we all know!
May your days be cloudy and cool
So you won’t have to open presents in the pool!

And there’s pawlenty more where that came furom! Shall I burn the box or publish it?

Hope the rest of you are having good weather so far and are looking forward to the festive season! And maybe you’d like to share some of my Christmas weather? ;-)

Purrs,
Samson T. “I’m Melting” Hunter

EDIT: Meowmy FINALLY got the music video uploaded. It's on my pet page - "Mahna Mahna". Enjoy!

Spring has sprung, and so has the grass! And the growing of the grass heralds the return of Meowmy's hayfefur. Nasty human illnesses! All it means is Meomwy goes through a lot of tissues and hates it when I rub my floofy tail in her face. :?

Anyway, in between sneezing and taking pills that don't seem to be doing anything useful, Meowmy has been working on a music video of me and my hometown furiends, Mikey and Goldie the dogs (who are in my furmily) and Yogi and Booboo (who are in Meowmy's sifur's furmily). She says she is having lots of fun making it and that it is almost finished, although judging by the number of death-threats she addresses to her computer daily, I don't think it's coming that easily. :| Stand by fur more news on that!

Also, on the more infuresting furont, a pair of Welcome Swallows have decided to make a nest in the beams of the carport roof. It's a little bark nest with three yummy chicks inside, but they've got the nest nicely wedged in a small, inaccessible place, so it will require some creative thinking to get to the tasty little snackies inside. :D I would rather show you a picture of me eating the little suckers (just to make you jealous!) but Meowmy says I should show you some pictures of my LIVE purrey. So here it is: (Sorry about the size of the pics; Photobucket's got a new look and I'm still tryin' to find my way around!)

the swallows' nest

the chicks (tasty, aren't they?)

this isn't actually the parent, but at least you can see what the adult looks like

I hope all of you are having a great Autumn, my furiends! As our weather gets nicer and our temperatures start rising, I'll be thinking of you all dusting out your firepawlaces and finding the electric blankies!

Have a great day, my furiends!

Purrs,
Samson
