We have not personally visited or investigated all of the breeders below. We have put the top-recommended all in one place for you to get in touch and make the best decision for you. Learn more about our stance and how to choose the right breeder here.

Persian cats are a popular cat breed, thanks to the long and luxurious coat, round face, and short muzzle that give it a unique look. First exported from Persia in 1620, Persian cats have been recognized by some associations since the 19th century.

Selective breeding created a wide variety of coat colors for the Persian, but also lead to increasingly flat-faced Persian varieties. Some breeders preserve the original, or traditional, Persian cat type. If you’re considering a Persian cat, there are a couple of breeders in Pennsylvania for you to choose between.

Berryhill Cattery is a longstanding breeding operation that currently shows and breeds Persian and Himalayan cats. As a breeder, Berryhill Cattery focuses on perpetuating the standards of the breeds set forth by cat associations and superior health and personality. The cattery and its cats are registered with the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA), The International Cat Association (TICA), the Cat Fanciers Federation, and the American Cat Fanciers Association.

All kittens come with a health guarantee, and adults have negative tests for FeLV, polycystic kidney disease, and feline AIDS. Byhishands Persian Cattery is a hobby cattery that shows and breeds Persian show and pet cats. The breeder focuses on high-quality bicolor Persian kittens eligible to show at Cat Fanciers’ Association shows. Registered with the CFA and the Cat Fanciers Association Persian Breed Council, the breeder follows the Breeder Code of Ethics as outlined by the association.

Few litters are available each year, so there may be a waitlist. Each kitten comes with a written health warranty, a full exam record from a veterinarian, and complimentary 60-day health insurance. If you need a kitten shipped, Byhishands Persian Cattery offers a private shipping service with background-checked drivers, including all the animal’s necessary vaccinations, exams, stamps, and approvals. The cattery offers extremely limited breeding rights to verified owners.

Located in central New Jersey, Mikkat Persians is a hobby breeder that produces a few litters a year to focus on healthy Persian kittens with exceptional breed standards and good temperaments. All kittens are raised in the home and are well socialized. Each kitten gets its first vaccines at 9 and 12 weeks and is dewormed at 7 and 11 weeks.

The breeder takes a lot of time to get to know prospective pet parents and requires a deposit on kittens. The kittens typically go to forever homes between 14 and 16 weeks of age, but never fewer than 12 weeks. Retired breeding adults are also available as pets.

A Word of Caution About Cat Mills

Though puppy mills get a lot of attention, kitten mills are prevalent. These facilities breed and raise kittens in high volumes, often in horrendous conditions. Many cats that come from mills suffer abuse, neglect, and long-lasting health problems. A mill’s focus is to produce and sell as many kittens as possible, so no attention is paid to their emotional and physical needs, their potential homes, or ongoing care.

Many cat mill kittens are sold online or in pet stores, but some pose as reputable breeders. It can be difficult to tell if a breeder is legitimate or a pet mill, but here are some tips:

  • Reputable breeders care about the owners and their kittens’ wellbeing, often asking possible buyers to sign contracts with restrictions on breeding rights, spaying and neutering, and declawing.
  • Reputable breeders include veterinary exam records and health guarantees for their cats and kittens. Some may also provide a spay or neuter, first vaccinations, and deworming.
  • Reputable breeders encourage potential owners to visit the facility to meet the parents and kittens.

While there may be exceptions, like the one on this list, reputable breeders will want potential owners to pick up their kitten in person. Depending on the rest of the conditions, a breeder willing to ship a kitten may be breeding in high volume and looking to unload kittens as quickly as possible.
