Arrival Story: We believe that Kit is the neighbor's cat. We live in a rural area so the neighbor is not "next door." The neighbor would walk by our house on their way to the little store with their 2 little dogs. Kit would follow behind. Late summer Kit started hanging out in the field across the street from our house. Every time Buddy would come out, Kit would come up to him and rub against him. Buddy had been abandoned with a cat, so he likes them. I had asked the younger woman at that house if they were missing their cat and she said she didn't think so.
Eventually, Kit trusted us enough to come in and eat with Buddy. But she'd want to go out right after eating. She'd show up for breakfast, lunch and dinner, supplementing her meal of mice, etc. She had brought us both a mole and mouse; we saw her eat the mouse.
At the vet she tested negative for the top 3 feline diseases. We had her vaccinated and also chipped. She is very street wise--she will not go near the road and runs when you start the car.
We are glad to have Kit an official member of the family, even if she is going to be an outside cat. We have constructed a small hut for her, but if she would like, she is welcome to sleep in her crate in the house at night.
Kit was becoming more a part of the family, so I made an appointment at the vet to have her checked out. And as of January 16, 2012, we now know she is female. But most importantly had already been spayed and is estimated to be about 1 1/2 years old.

Bio: Neighborhood "stray" who had been cared for enough to be spayed. "Adopted" our Beagle, Buddy.

Lives Remaining: 9 of 9

I came home last night and got to spend the night in the house--it was really cold. I slept up on the bed with mom and dad...and Max was near me, too!
This morning mom got out a carrying cage and put me in it off we went in the car for a ride. I meowed most of the way there. When we parked, she carried me into a building. I could smell other animals. And there was another kitty there and she would come over to my cage and paw at me!
Mom said we were at the vet's. I got to come out of my cage and the nice girl weighed me. I way 10.6 and I got a shot, too. But I was good girl the whole time.
Then mom loaded me back up in the cage and we went back in the car. When we got home, mom took me inside and opened my cage. the boys went out and I followed them.
When Max and Bud went back in the house, I stayed out. Mom tried to get me to come back in, but I wouldn't. She came to the door several times and talked to me, but I was flipping my tail at her.
Guess I was ticked at her for taking me for a ride.

Today is my gotcha day. I have been with "my family" for one year now. At least it is a year ago today that mom and dad made it official and took me to the vet to see if I was healthy. So they made this my gotcha day.
A lot has happened in the year that I have been a part of this family. The biggest thing is that there was a new addition--Max! And Max is not fond of me. We keep testing each other, and I will usually back down so he doesn't get hurt. I can easily go hide behind the couch until dad gets him under control and disciplines him. His punishment is that he has to go to time out in his crate. When will he learn the consequences of his actions?
However, just yesterday, Max was not feeling very well. When he and Buddy came outside in the morning, he was very sluggish. I was actually able to rub up against him--twice!! There was no reaction from him at all.
I keep bringing mom and dad all kinds of special presents, at least 2 or 3 a week. Sometimes they can't even tell what they had been. Meow!
Well, I hope you all have a great day; I know I will because I found a very loving home.

...and mom is crying. She doesn't know where I am or if I'm safe.
Last night some friends of mom and dad's came over and they were sitting out by the fire. Max was there and I was there for a while, too. Dad knows he saw me after midnight. They went in to bed around 1 am. I was not on the porch and mom commented to Max that maybe I was mad her for taking "my chair" out to the fire.
I didn't come home for breakfast...which is very odd. Buddy and Max were out a good bit of the day and Buddy was baying. But I didn't come home. Now it is dark and after dinner and I'm still not home. There is one piece of food left in my dish, like it was when mom and dad and Max went to bed.
