Arrival Story:
Leo was one of the kittens from a small, semi-feral kitten/mother found at the welding shop my brother-in-law worked for. Everyone was found homes and the mother (Gray as she became) was spayed as soon as possible. Initially, his human mom, Kelle, went over to my in-laws just to look at the babies as we already had two adult cats and a one year old dog at the time. Looking didn't last long enough so Leo came home with us when he was ready. Luckily, we lived next door so I didn't have to go far while I waited.

Leo was humanely euthanized in spring of 2011. He had become ill with Feline Leukemia. We had first noticed drastic weight loss in December. He was diagnosed in January. We decided to let him live until he was no longer comfortable in life. At his healthiest, he weighed 13 lbs. At the time of his euthanasia he was down to 5 1/2 pounds. Leo was the most amazing cat I have ever known. He was more or less raised by our dog, Tyson, and they were best buddies. They enjoyed playing tag, "scratch the sofa" and snuggling together. When Leo was a kitten, he tried on many occasions to nurse on Tyson's mouth. Tyson would always growl at him, give him a lick to distract him and then walk off quickly. Being was a bit odd, he was very accepting of things like toddlers and small children carrying him around the house. Our son had the closest relationship with him of our children and he would often be found laying on our son's bed or snuggling with him. We would joke that when Leo was inside he forgot he was a cat. Outside, he was all kitty, though. He was a cold-blooded killer of varmints. As much as he enjoyed watching the birds, they were spared his blood-lust. Over the years, we found countless skulls of his victims. Most were mice and rats but every once in a while we'd find bigger prey, prairie dogs. We have no idea how on earth he did it. Leo was a good friend and is still missed by us all.
