Ben was the runt of a large litter found at the Milton Pound. My Girl Scout visited the pound and there was our Ben. He wasn't our first choice because he was so small but he came to us. He was so beautiful. He hadn't become weaned so he nearly died. The pound helped us and Ben went to the Boston Cat Hospital where they saved his life. He was just four weeks old at that time. I was told that Ben would never get very big and that his tail would not grow very large. Ben becamse a very large cat of sixteen pounds. He was tossed around by my girls. They loved him. He was dressed in doll clothes and pushed in carriages. He was an indoor cat. He only got out once. He stayed by the front door in pure terror. He just loved eating. He would eat anything that you gave him. As he grew older, he had a kidney blockage. Because of Ben, I don't use dry foods anymore with cats. He was on special diet, C/D for the rest of his life. Later on, he develped an hyperthyroid which was treated by radiation at Angell's. He was not an easy cat to pill and the radiation over time was the cheaper option. The radiation went well when Ben was about eleven. Then, he developed diabetes. Thanks to the Felinediabetes Board, he was regulated and I home tested him. He was regulated well exept just a couple times. He never crashed thanks to taking his bg's every time. Then, he was turning just sixteen...he stopped eating....When he went to his vet, she found a very large tumor. He was just half of his size by then....He was given his wings. He and Natasha were mates even though he was so much older. He helped her once. My husband accidentally stepped on Natasha's tail. She howled. Ben came around the corner and jumped on my husband's leg. My husband couldn't believe how strong Ben was. From that day on, we knew Ben was our protector....
Many people were scared of Ben. My father waited for us to put him in the bedroom before he came into the house. My daughters loved Ben. When we tried selling our house, we got an offer for Ben and not the house. We took him with us from that point on...We never sold the house.
