In Dec 2010, the Gram-Gram, with whom I'd lived since April 1995, went into the hospital with an infection and then pneumonia, and she went to heaven in January.
Until Nov 20, 2011, I lived alone in her house, with Uncle coming once a week to take care of my food, water, and litter box. We tried and tried to find me a home, but everyone had cat-unfriendly pets, and the shelters didn't want 16 yr old cats.
Finally the Gram-Gram's daughter said she would bring me home, and she prayed and hoped that things would work out with Rosco, her prey-oriented Rat Terrier. The Daddy put a new door upstairs, did a little remodeling, and made me my own space upstairs. Rosco must stay downstairs.
The Daddy and the Mama went to get me into my crate to come home. The Mama started putting treats in my crate and I went right in. I rode all the long way to my new house in the back seat with her, and I didn't get carsick or meow or hiss or fight! I just furballed myself up on the towel in the crate and waited quietly.
When we got home, the Mama got out of the car and set the crate and herself down on the driveway. Rosco sniffed it curiously, but then I hissed at him(!) and he backed up and started barking loudly! Everytime he tried to get close, I hissed and he backed up and started barking again loudly!
Then he got brave enough to try to sniff, with his nose through the crate's locked gate, and I slapped him quickly and repeatedly!
Good thing for him that I don't have any front claws!
Then he kept barking loudly. The Mama said that was enough. She went upstairs with me, and that's the last I've seen of him! He's tried to get through the door to the upstairs that the Daddy installed for him, but they keep it closed, and there's a baby gate downstairs (that he obeys most of the time (LOL) ) We seem to have adjusted to his being downstairs, and to my being upstairs, though we both want to get through that door!!
I started eating enthusiastically within 5 minutes of coming here!!
They'd decorated my room with quilts and throw pillows and other stuff from my old house, as well as my dishes and litter box, so it felt somewhat familiar.
The Mama says thank you for all your supportive thoughts and prayers. she knows they helped make the transition easier. You guys were SO right, praise God, it was so much easier than the Mama thought it would be!
