Arrival Story:
Nobody knows where he originally came from, or even how old he really is. He took up residence in our neighborhood around March or April 2010. He became a familiar sight to the neighbors. I didn't meet him until May 9, 2010...Mother's Day...when he followed my daughter home. I took him in, assuming he was a neighbor's cat. I found out that he didn't belong to anyone in the neighborhood, but many neighbors had seen him before. I spent weeks trying to find an owner, but never found one. We then decided to keep him as part of our family. I'll always be thankful for this special Mother's Day present.

Rogue is one of the cats who practically named themselves. We were having a hard time naming him, but the answer should have been obvious. He managed to escape several times during the first week we had him...he would "go rogue". Rogue is also an appropriate name for a stray anyway, since they are "vagabonds" as described in the dictionary. Rogue continues living up to his name every day, in one way or another. In May 2010, the vet guessed that he was 1 or 2 years old. He is FIV-positive, although he's in good health. My neighbors told me that he fought another neighborhood cat about 3 weeks before I found him, so maybe that's how he caught it. Rogue is cat-aggressive and therefore can't be around other cats. He got the nickname Rogue the Ripper after another cat bolted inside the house and Rogue tried to fight him. Rogue is mostly a "macho" cat. He carries himself with an air of assertiveness. He spends most of his waking hours looking out of windows, making sure that no other animals wander into his territory. He is mostly aloof to people. However, he has recently begun licking me and sleeping next to me at night. I'm hoping that with more time, he'll loosen up a bit. I'm probably making Rogue seem like a bad cat, but he's really not. He's awesome to have around. We've really enjoyed having him and can't wait to see if he'll continue blossoming over the years. You're welcome to join us to see his progress easing into family life, as well as monitor his health. Hopefully Rogue's condition won't end his life prematurely and he'll be around for a very long time.
