Today was a strange day. Come to think of it, all week has been strange.
The big tom, Tiger, has been allowed to stay in the house at night, which is unheard of! Normally he sleeps in the warm cellar with that odious black cat with the matted hair, Allegra, that I usually chase if none of the humans are watching. If they are watching, I mew piteously like she is hurting me. Well, it does hurt me not to be allowed to chase her!
Anyway, I digress. I'm supposed to sleep in the garage but, as my hair is really very thick, I sleep in a box under an overhang where I can ambush Allegra as she comes out of the cellar.
Tiger has been allowed to sleep in the house all week although it is really warm just now! Also, every time I go in, I find he's been given ham to eat! Ham is for special occasions only (actually I don't rate it much but he goes crazy over it). Actually, that's all he eats these days. He's gone off the crunchy things and I've seen him gag at anything else they put there.
He's got really thin and fragile-looking so I'm pretty sure I could knock him over now but, as he is Top Cat and my Mummy makes that very clear, I just accept and leave him alone but I do monopolise the living room and he goes off to the dining room to sleep in peace away from the humans.
So today was extra strange because I wasn't allowed in until evening and Mummy even visited my garage to make sure there was food there. I'm smart - I figured that meant I was to be outside for the duration. Then she lets me in in the evening but she's not normal. For once, Tiger isn't around. Mummy's wandering around in a dream, not paying me or the matted creature any attention and her eyes are puffy.
Uncharacteristically, she leaves the door to the hall open so I sneak out and what do I see!? I see the big cage open on the floor! Now that always means VET, excuse the language! But VET means we all get bundled into cages and get taken together and this time the big cage - Tiger's - is lying open. Anyway then Mummy sweeps past and shoos me back into the kitchen - she seems cross that I saw the cage. I'm the smart one and usually figure out really quickly what's going on but this time I'm a bit non-plussed. I wonder what's up?
