indoors and outdoors

Arrival Story:
I found her lying in an outhouse nearly dead. Her hair was so matted that I didn't realise she was long-haired and thought the hard lumps all over her body were broken bones! Now she is shorn every summer to keep it nice.

She was very aggressive and used to spit at visiting humans and cats. She thinks she is much bigger than she is. She is very clever but obstinate and manipulates us! She does enjoy cuddles but less so than other cats. We have to fetch her out of the cellar daily because she has got on the wrong side of one of the other cats and is frightened to come out. We tried feline feremones to make her more confident.

I keep 'em guessing. They argue over whether I'm very stupid or just contrary. I belong to the boy - he's grown so tall he's really a man. I don't get many cuddles from the other two humans but, when he is there, I get lots of cuddles, particularly if I sit with him as he does his homework on the PC. I'd probably get some attention from the other humans if I ever went into the living room but I get the heebeejeebees in there because that vicious cat, Rufus, is always sitting on the sofa looking down at me. She pretends to be sweetness and light but it's not like that when we meet outside!
For the last few months, I notice that my cellar companion, the big tom Tiger, has avoided sitting in there as well. As Tiger is Top Cat, she (yes, Rufus is a "she" - they didn't look properly before naming her), she doesn't do anything exactly to push him out but she has a way of getting between him and the humans so he just slips off to the dining room to avoid confrontation.
He wouldn't always have done that. A nip in the neck and she'd have been put in her place. He must be getting old! Losing his touch! In fact, he has lost so much weight that I've even confused them a few times! Well, they're both stripey but he was so much bigger and cuddlier that I'd never confuse them before but, just lately, if they are lying down, I find it difficult to tell which one it is so I get the heebeejeebees even if it is Tiger.
He hasn't been down in the cellar at night all week. At first I missed him and sat in his bed but then I rather got to like it. When I came into the house in the morning, I'd rub noses with him if I'd not seen him for a bit, but just lately he has begun to smell a bit funny and he doesn't respond. There is a bit of an atmosphere. No one is paying me any attention but I'm not bothered.
