In 2002,Tidbit was given to me as a gift on our first Valentine's day from my husband. She was a rescue from a local non kill rescue shelter. At first, Tidbit was frightened, hid and hissed at everyone. I whispered and handled her in the most gentle manner, Tidbit warmed to me and came out. But, she was still untrustworthy of others and continued to hiss and growl, and was basically unapproachable. Tid Bit began doing something that bewildered me.
She often rolled and showed her belly for me. It took me a few times to understand what this was. It was her sign to show her trust, love and affection. I was honored!
After four years of owning Tid Bit as an inside cat, she was let outside. She was gone, and never to be seen again. I searched frantically for her. I contacted two pet psychics and was told by one that she was alive, and by the other that she was dead. Naturally, I believed the worst and hoped for the best.
Time went on and I never stopped grieving. Then in 2010 while I was searched the neighborhood for one of our "gypsy" cats, I wandered upon a home that was believed to have the cat. Fully knowing he wouldn't stay at one house very long, I searched for him just to be sure he was safe. Much to my disbelief...shock, there was my Tidbit!!!
She was living one street over! My God! After four years, I found my Tidbitty. She was matted and dirty, but appeared healthy. The woman who cared for her kept Tidbit as an outdoor cat. To this day I still don't understand why.
So, my story ends happy! My Tidbit is home. She is more affectionate with the family, but still is ferocious with the cats. I love her and am making up for the lost years.
