Arrival Story:
Extremely long story short, I was a volunteer for a year at a rescue run by people with very toxic personalities, and she ended up as one of my fosters. I realized their nature when I repeatedly got blamed for her sicknesses when they had ignored them. She had panleuk, which they ignored for a week - she survived it, thankfully. Then we found out she had glaucoma but by the time I had permission to take her to anyone she had already lost sight in her eye and it had spread. She developed problems digesting food around this time, suspected to do with intracranial pressure due to her eye swelling so much, and was hospitalized. The rescue tried to put her down without notifying me multiple times but I, and the vets at the practice who vouched for her quality of life, fought for her tooth and nail (I eventually stopped caring about maintaining working relationships with them after being accused of neglecting her multiple times when they denied her medical attention even though I called them daily) and after a week and a half she was released back into my care and soon after I signed an adoption contract. No regrets. We were told if we didn't fight for her she would have been put down. No volunteer job in the world is worth a loved animal with a good quality of life being put down because they don't feel like the vets know enough. She's the best kitty ever even though she has her little quirks. At 3 months she was under a pound, at ~5 months now she just broke the 2 pound mark. but she's full of life. She's my first and last failed foster. She's my Mango.

Bio:
Mango is blind in one eye due to glaucoma and is a little wonky acting due to being a survivor of panleuk. She was likely the only surviving kitten in her litter, and also likely premature. She will probably be on eyedrops for the rest of her life. She loves her toy duck and jumping on me in bed and meowing until I wake up to say good morning, at which point she proceeds to fall asleep on me. :)

I'm home!

What an exhausting day! In at 7 AM, in surgery around 10 AM, and back home at last around 5 PM. I only had a minor complication with intubation but my vitals were strong throughout, but boy did i not like that anesthetic! when I came to I apparently clawed and bit everyone in sight. Oops.
I'm really feisty and decided that I didn't like the e-collar, and flipped and howled and threw myself into the cage at the clinic until they switched it for a soft one and put me in the carrier Mom brought me in. Then I promptly got out of the soft one around 5 times before mom looked up an alternative and ended up making 3 little kitty jackets which I'm sure she'll post embarassing pictures of. Only one fits. First was too small, second too big. It's dark pink and I look a little less than fashionable. Maybe I'm just a trendsetter.

Mom is shocked that I made it through so well and I'm still kicking (and biting!) hard. I say this isn't the first time nor will it be the last time she underestimates me! I will write more on how I have been soon, but first...

My friends Kaci Sunshine, Bella, and Colleen aren't doing so good though in case you didn't know :( they need your thoughts and purrs! be sure to visit them and keep them in your heart.

Yikes!! Surgery! Everyone is very very worried. I'm high risk so they'll be taking a lot of precautions: tech on standby, emergency meds, IV line, monitors, special anesthesia. mom hopes it'll all go okay but she'd like it if you kept me in your thoughts tomorrow (Monday!) since i'm a big unknown and we don't know how i might react to anesthesia.

I'll update everyone soon!

a few updates

Hi everyone,
sorry for being out of touch. Mom's a little sad. I went to the neurology office again and saw another doctor, since we were checking when and if I should be spayed.
Well, we got a no on the spay. They said my health was too fragile for it. Unfortunately we also found out that my neurological exam was worse than when it was taken in December. The doctor says he expects it to get progressively worse due to whatever is happening in my head, whether it's FIP or something else, they don't know.
He told mom to take me to an eye doctor to think about what we could do about my bad eye (which is now forming a cataract, it seems).. IF i lived to be a year. I'll be a year in July or August.

This upset my mom a lot. The doctor explained I would probably get worse gradually and he thinks I eventually might stop being able to breathe or swallow.

Anyway, we tried taking me off of the antinausea medication, it seemed to work for a couple of weeks and then I was gagging a lot and very uncomfortable and finally started vomiting again. So I'm back on that now. mom doesn't mind giving me two medications.

I got a new scratching post which I love a lot, mainly I like climbing it up and down in rapid succession. It makes Mom smile.
Thanks to everyone for their love, especially to Uncle Ruffy and to my valentine Smitty. :)
