The Reason We Can't Have Nice Things

Meowmy is Very Worried...

Hi All,

I posted something under Raw Food when I was thinking of switching Roush to Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Food. He's been on Prescription Diet C/D Chicken since suffering from a blockage in August 2011 and I was worried that his vet didn't have enough information (or maybe care!) to address my concerns about him being on that long-term.

So I switched him to the new food ... and it's been down hill from there.

I started the switch Thursday, March 8th and he seemed fine until Monday, March 12th when he showed no interest in food. The vet gave him an anti-naseau shot on the 13th and he returned home and ate! We were so happy and relieved!!

Then this morning (the 14th) I woke up and once again he has no interested in food. :( I know of nothing he could've gotten into and eaten that would cause this, we keep our home picked up so he can't get into anything, nor does he normally have a knack for picking up non-food items and gnawing on them.

The vet said now to monitor him overnight to the 15th and update them, if he's not gotten better or is doing worse they'll start blood work and a scan but I'm so sad, I have a feeling this is not going to end well.

I feel so guilty, for switching him to this food that seems to have caused the problem. I thought any healthy raw/wet food would be fine, and put a lot into researching the best alternative. We just bought a house and I don't think that if something big comes up we'll be able to afford it, his blockage was $2,000 at an Emergency Clinic and we just finished paying that off!

Please keep us in your thoughts. :(

Vet Check-Up

Oh my, Catster friends! My momma is sooo excited right now! We just got back from the vet, who said that I, once a slovenly 16.0 lbs. now weigh 10.15 lbs! (They even weighed me twice because they couldn't believe it!) They said that I am at the "perfect" weight given my body type!

She was so excited she went to Chow Hound Pet Supply and got me a new toy! It has feathers on it and I keep ripping them off and getting them stuck on my tongue. :/

And for my fellow FIC/FLUTD suffering friends, my vet said that Ohio State University has an amazing veterinary school that often studies this very problem and we should watch their research publications on the subject. She said the last one she read while attending a veterinary conference said that cats such as myself relax and have a better prognosis when we get a chance to listen to music that involves instruments of the stringed variety - how odd is that!? But momma said she would give it a shot, any one have any suggestions for CDs she should pick up?

Happy Halloween! ...*barf*

Mom was all excited this past Saturday because she was headed to Traverse City to spend a weekend with her girlfriends. Well I didn't want her to leave! I woke up early, climbed out of bed, and nom-ed on Mom and Dad's pumpkins in protest!

When Mom got up to feed me, I started digging in... but all of a sudden I didn't feel so good.... So I jumped into bed with them to try to sleep it off, but as soon as Mom was ready to leave for her trip... *coughcoughBARF!* THEN and only then, could I actually sleep it off (while they cleaned up my mess).

Mom and Dad were worried sick about me and Dad had to convince Mom that he could take care of me and push her out the door and into her car. Dad sat home with me all day, debating on weather or not to call that evil vet while I slept and slept and slept and refused food.

Then, finally at 7pm, I awoke from my nap, bit dad, meowed and told him it was time for some FOOOOOD! He knew I was feeling better and immediately called Momma to let her know the good news! She was so relieved!

It was only upon her return to the homestead, while they were further discussing why I had ended up sick, that while Mom was lighting the candles in the pumpkins, that she realized they were starting to mold and there was evidence of kitteh tampering!

So lesson to the wise, keep an eye on your cats and your pumpkins! Or you'll have a weekend like me and Mom did! :)
