No wonder Mom is so tired.The last few days a young Raccoon has been coming up to the door.
It seems like it can barely walk it seems to tip towards it;s side like it;s lost it's balance.Not that mom doesn't mind sharing her land with Raccoons but she is not sure she actually wants it up at the door because they do carry some parasites.
She is probably going to have to call the humane society to see if they can trap it and see what;s wrong with.
She has been giving it some food at the edge of the yard by the evergreen because she knows in that condition it can;t be eating well.She is starting to think the word of mouth to these creatures in the park is that she is Doctor Dolittle.mol.
Also it is now almost 1.00 a.m and young Elwood has not shown up yet.Mom is trying not to be to upset and hoping he is just out rough necking around or maybe he is just scared with the coon around.She is exhausted and can no longer wait for him.Praying he shows up tommorrow.

Poor raccoon. But I could see Elwood and other cats being scared to come around because of the raccoon being there. Be very careful, raccoons can carry rabies and distemper and many other diseases. Disorientation is one sign of rabies! Not sure if you want the cats too close when he raccoon is around. Elwood might sense that it is dangerous. I would call someone for sure. Humane society or animal control. I think I would stick to feeding the ferals instead and not encourage the raccoons. Your Mom has enough mouths to feed as it is! But I am just thinking of the safety of the cats.

Mom Dolittle is a good name for your Mom!!

Thank you for the advice .Mom doesn't know that much about rabies.She will definately call the humane society and see if they can come get it.I,m sure now if she tells them she thinks it is rabid.They will come quicker.
Yes Zack you are right Mom has enough mouths to feed.It is just so hard to detour them and the possums because of the catfood but maybe Mom will set of a cut off point on when she puts the food out.Like as soon as dusk hits.

Zacks thanks again for your warning about the raccoon.Mom did alot of research on the internet and didn't realize how much health problems they can cause to humans and animals.Her and Dad are going to call the DNR today to come trap him.Now mom knows to be careful to try and detour them from coming where on the property .

Your welcome, Hunter. We don't have raccoons here but Mom remembers them when she use to live in WI. They are very cute but good to be cautious. Great your Mom did some research too as mom did just a quick look and thought she would warn you, just in case. I know your Mom loves her ferals so much and wants them to feel safe.

Mom read in the newspaper awhile ago that in an apartment complex a couple of blocks from us a man was in the jacuzzi at night and a coyote attacked him. They said he must have been rabid to do that. I have no idea what happened to the man or the coyote but scary!

It does sound like this poor raccoon might have rabies. Sometimes they can be seen walking in circles and disoriented like Zack mentioned. That's so sad to see. Your ferals might be hanging back for fear or they can sense something is wrong. Paws crossed for your kitties and raccoon too. Stay safe and take care!

oh thank goodness because we were going to say the same thing. Raccoons carry a lot of diseases and can get rabies easily. I wouldn't go near that thing! Glad Zack got here in time to tell you about that.
