Being a cat and dog owner all my life, I know that any animal can act a little off after getting vaccines. Heck, I've felt off after getting a vaccine especially when I got my TDap shot a year ago but poor Gris is not being his self at all. He also got flea medicine too.
We got home, I let him out of the carrier and went on with my chores. What he did I don't know, where he went I don't know. Obviously, he walked off to feel bad. I decided to feed the cats and when he ran in to eat he seemed to be okay. He ate a little, not as much as he usually does and walked off. I thought it was odd. Then I heard him in the litterbox, scratching around. Just so you know he had the D word.
Then a few seconds later, I heard him meow load and long. I thought that's a throw up call. Zoe does that when she sometimes throws up. I rushed into Zach's room. Gris is sitting on his carrier. He's not moving much, he actually looked like he was trying to sleep. Also a little odd. Then he goes back to the bathroom, pees this time and jumps on the bed with me. I realized at this point that he was looking at things like he's seeing trails. Then I noticed poopie litter on his foot. I picked him up and went to wash of his foot. He was not happy. I put him down with in a min. he starts to walk into the living room, stops. Yells out to load long deep meows and throws up. It scared the poor baby so much he tried climbing the wall.
Immediately, I called Doc. he asked me is his face swollen, is his gums pink or white. He offered to look at him again but there was no swelling that I could see and his gums were pink so I said I would just keep an eye on him. He told me to pick up the food and water for a couple hrs and to keep the other animals from bothering him. He said he would come in later if he had too. Which is good cause the 24 hr vet is a twenty minute drive from here. He also told me to bring him in tomorrow if still acting funny.
He's resting right now, being standoffish, and he didn't purr for his Daddy.
Please purr that this will pass and he will be back to his normal bouncy self within hrs. Cross your fingers and paws for us. I will be here watching him and keeping you updated.
I have stayed up all night watching Diamond after she was able to paw a bakers dozen of brownies (from the best sweet shoppe in town) to the edge of the table and decided to have her a good old feast. Now it's Gris's turn.
Ah, heck! We are all purring for you here - that's a horrible feeling to see your baby sick! And while we're purring for Gris, lets throw in a few purrs for little Fearless. She's lively and eating well, but the poor girl has such a stuffed up head that she has trouble breathing. Got her a higher dosage of Clavamox on Monday to replace the Amoxicillin - if this isn't better by next Monday, we're back to the vets. Here's hoping we neither of us have to see the vet again for a long time.
This is Mom, craziest thing, as soon as i hit submit David came walking in and said him and Dad are going to take the lawnmower over to our motor rebuilder guys house. He looked down at Gris. Gris was balled up laying on the floor in front of the bed. He asked is little man going to be okay? I said he should be, I'll call you if he turns. David then proceeds to lay down in front of Gris, Puts his chin on Gris's head and starts to rub him. I hear him purring, this is a good sign. David rubs him for a little while and then gets up to leave. Gris gets up and walks over to where the water bowl usually is. Then he jumps on the dresser where the food usually is. I look at the clock it's been an hour and a half already. So I gave him a very very small bite. He then proceeds to jump on the bed and shows interest on my chicken quesadilla (I'm camped out on the bed so I can keep an eye on him). Another good sign. He is now laying on the bed with me, Zach and Diamond. Maybe he's going to be just fine after all.
I'll still be keeping an eye on him and keeping you posted.
Samhain, we will be keeping Fearless in mind. We hate seeing kits get sick and there parents worry too.
Doc put a kit size dosage of Advantage Multi on Gris. I wonder if somehow with the scratching if he didn't get the medicine on his paw and then licked it. We had a cat that would do that and then she would foam at the mouth for about 10 min.
Oh and he weighs 5.9 pds now! Up from 2 something back in Sept.
We posted at the same time. I saw your post after I went to read the earlier entries - Fearless says thanks for writing about her! Sleeper and I are officially still not talking to her, but there are signs that we are weakening. Maybe a little later...
It does sound like Gris had a reaction to the vaccine, but the fact that how he seems ready to have food and water does look like he's getting over it. Good news!
Yeah, the Advantage might have been a factor, too. I think this Clavamox sort of hits Fearless a bit strong as well. She seems to slow down a bit after she has it. I've tried to make sure she eats something first before having the dose since even the Mama doesn't do well with antibiotics on an empty stomach.
Hope so Samhain, I hope it is good news.
You have your kits out in the open together now during the times you are there? I used a shoestring to draw Zach into playing with Gris. Before i knew it they were playing tug of war. Then Zach hissed and ran away but it was a start.
Just keep an eye on Fearless, chances are your right having a little food on the stomach will help.
Doc had questioned motion sickness but he is such a good rider. He doesn't cry unlike my other two (Zoe being the worst) and he was actually laying down on the way home.
He a sleep now, twitching paw and all.
Yes, we are all together now, though the Mama was at first concerned about me spreading my cold. Doesn't seem to be happening, but she's watching. And,yes - the Mama has done exactly that with the shoestring! With the same results - MOL!!! I make advances to both of them, and they don't automatically hiss and growl, but if I persist - they do. The Mama says it might be better if I didn't chase Sleeper, but I can't help myself! She can't help but laugh when she sees it (though she stops me), because I weigh about 4 lbs and Sleeper weighs close to 13 and is HUGE in comparison! MOL MOL MOL!
It's kinda like a chihuahua chasing a German Shepherd! I have more self respect - I do not run from the little squirt. Well...maybe I did once...or twice...but I had somewhere important to go at the time!
I just got up and gave Mommie a kiss on the nose and a headbonk.
Giant kitten purrs for my dear furriends Gris & Fearless!! Luv, Snow
Way ta go, Gris!!! I'll get better if you will! Gotta be in form for our race...
Samhain just PLAYED WITH ME!!!!!!!! Alright, we were sort of separated by a box, but she was pulling on one end of the string and I was on the other, and the Mama had backed off and it was just the two of us!!! For almost 5 minutes - yea!!!!
Yippee!!! That's how it started with us, too!!!
How long did it take you and Tink, Snow?
Less than a week - I melted her heart!! She hated me the first few days, and she still hisses and growls at me for a 20-minute period sometime during each day! She STILL won't snuggle with me, but I try!! It's just too hard not to nip at her in the process!! MOL!
aww we are so glad to hear you are feeling better little Gris. Fearless I still chase the other cats (only the ones that will run from me) here it is not just a kitten thing I guess I just like to see the kitties run. Gris it is so pawsome the way you are getting along with your new family
Hey! What happened? Mom went to take a shower and do laundry and stuff and you guys had you a little get together while I was gone.
Fearless, that is great that you played with Samhain by your selves! Very important that you both learn your both cats. That sounds funny.
I thank Tink and Snow might be the exceptions. Seemed like they were best friends right away. But remember Tink was the cat who ran to the door to greet guest, extremely open and friendly.
We all lay near each other but not with each other.
Oh btw, I'm lots better. Almost normal now. Something made me have a mild reaction but who knows what. I was in the funk for a good three hours.
Moma Ivey, Zoe says quit chancing her friends unless it's out of fun.
Doc said I was good looking cat! Here that! Mom says he likes all of us but Zoe. Zoe always scratches him with her Ginsu nails!
Hope you are feeling better Gris and that it was just a reaction to the medications or maybe you were just a little stressed or something. Purrs for you and Fearless
I just came back to see if there was an update - so glad to hear you're feeling back to normal!
Wow! Looks like we missed effurything. Glad to hear Gris is doing better. It sounds like it was a reaction to the vaccinations.
Sending purrs to both you and Fearless anyway.
Glad you are feeling better Gris!
Hey everybody, Mom stayed home with me this morning cause I'm still not completely myself. I didn't come to see her, I didn't meow 59 words a min like usual, my face is a little puffy and I act like I want to eat but then I don't.
I'm going to see the doc in 40 min.
Oh no, Gris! We thought your reaction was finished! Let us know what the doc says. We're purring for you. Gentle hugs!
Oh no! Sending lots of purrs!
Oh no! Sending lots of purrs!
Mom- are back. Doc checked my temperature. Ouchhhh! Didn't like that at all! And guess what I'm running a fever due to me vaccine. He said that's why I'm not eating or acting right. So, he gave me a shot for my fever. Oooouuucchh! Mom told me he is helping me, well it doesn't feel like it! He told Mom that the shot will reduce my fever and I should start eating.
He also gave Mom some pills in case I don't eat by this evening and then told her if I don't eat to bring him BACK in tomorrow. What? I give,I'll eat!
Mom said she's going to work, cause Doc said it should be alright and she'll check and report when she gets back home.
We are all thinking of you and are hopeful the Doctor's medicine will do the trick!
Gris - I'm so sorry you feel bad and had to have ouchie medicines this morning. I want you to know, though, that I seem to be improved this morning, and Samhain has been helping get me in shape for our contest by chasing me around the house last night and this morning - I'm so happy! So you'd better get well so I don't beat your butt TOO bad when we have our race! OK?
Oh dear--you're still not feeling too hot. Hope the doctor's ouchie medicine fixes you right up.
small dood, hope this entree posts as de stooooooooooooooooopid page knot found mess iz rampant two day...HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS....
sending purrs N de blessings oh st francis two ewe; poop buddy, itza good sign, pee buddy, itza good sign, eat N drink buddy; itza good sign N sleep if ya gotta coz it be a healer
I am doing just fine, just okeydokey. Me and Mom just woke up from taking a nap and eat!
One of Mom's friends said her Mandy had to take an antidote shot right before taking her feline-luk shot. Could this be something he'll need? Maybe.
The Mama can't remember - do we have to have boosters for those yearly or just rabies? It's something to think about if you are going to need the antidote shot in future.
Oh, and happy to hear you're feeling better! So am I! :)
I get one more feline luk booster shot in 2 to 3 weeks, I'll be getting fixed in Dec. too. Not at the same time. I'm going to ask about the antidote shot when I schedule the vet visit.
Then my cats get boosters every year after that. Rabies every 3 or 5 years of course the 1st rabies shot is good for only 1 year. I thank this is right.
Fearless, I meant to tell you congrats on getting Samhain to chase you today. I'm going to run my little leggins off racing you!
Yeah, dang - the Mama forgot! She wasn't there when I went in the first time, but the Papa had made a note. I have to go in, too, to get the 2nd FELV/FVRCP combo on the 24th!
Many Purrs from us. It's so scary when they have a reaction. Are you going to have a pre anaesthetic test done before he gets neutered? Lots and lots of purrs
